Grumpy old woman here Evil or Very Mad ....
This weekend (Halloween), the fireworks will be popping around us. I'm not being a party pooper but I do wish people would attend organised displays if they want to see some, rather than letting them off in the countryside.

In Cornwall a neighbour's pony ran itself to death one Guy Fawkes night. The family now try to raise public awareness about this hazard to livestock owners by putting up posters and dropping flyers around the village in early November.

We are careful and bring horses in before dusk for a few nights before and after, and then keep a special eye out. My aunt sat up with hers all night last year as her stables are in the middle of a Somerset village. Some local boys decided to throw lit fireworks out of their cars as they passed.....ggrrrrrrr Evil or Very Mad

There was a thread about this very subject on the CR earlier in the week, and I agree with your sentiments exactly Salle.

Another Grumpy Old Woman here SdeB. I don't mind the recognised dates for fireworks so much- we all know the nights around Nov 5th and New Year when fireworks may be a problem. What really annoys me are the events we can't anticipate- birthdays, anniversaries etc, with no word of warning to anybody nearby.
I did write to our local paper a few years ago suggesting that it would be a good idea for neighbours to let those around them know of unexpected firework happenings. My immediate neighbour was very pleased, but a not quite so near neighbour has not spoken since!

The inconsiderateness of people is beyond belief. If someone is going to let off unexpected fireworks here, they would undoubtedly let everyone know - as I once did myself.
Do people still not understand that pet owners have to take action to protect their gun-shy animals?
