I sent a small parcel of beads to Sue at Amazing Beads (Sueatkilmeedy) and they haven't arrived. I posted them on 5th October so they've had plenty of time to get there but they are 'lost in the post'. And now there's going to be a postal srtike and there is no way to send her any more. Botheration.... and other much stronger words a lady like me doesn't even know, let alone use. Pah!

I think people are fast losing faith in the postal system. It's such a shame. I do hope the beads find their way. Would they be insured for losses?

I never insure them as I have always had such wonderful service before. I often post stuff to my sister in the North of Scotland and it arrives the following morning. Even to Ireland where Sue lives, it usually only takes 4 days. I feel really let down. Not only because the beads have disappeared, but because I feel they can't be trusted any more.

I find this is always a big worry. I sell a fair amount of stuff from my website and it all goes out via Royal Mail. I give people the option of paying more for recorded delivery, etc., when they fill in the online form but not many people do. So far, touch wood, I've not lost anything at all that I've sent out but I have had occasion when I've not received something that's been posted to me, usually from abroad. Maybe they'll still turn up....

Lampie, how frustrating.

I've got 'signed for' stuff gone astry, regarding sorting out Dad's affairs. Letters containing important papers like certificates, policies, and certified copies of the will (which cost me a fortune) and they won't even entertain engaging in discussion until they are 28 days past posting date! I wish there was some viable alternative to the Royal Mail.

Aparently, I should have sent it via a tracking service, but even though I expressed the urgent nature of the envelopes and asked for the best way to send them, I have sent them by the wrong method.

So sorry to hear this Lampie - the post office used to be great - but not so anymore - I always do anything important at the very least recorded as I too have had things go missing and I always insure anything worth money.

I did complain a while back when something I send went missing and I was able to prove its worth and I got my money back. You could send things parcel force that is different to our normal post and that will still operate when the Royal Mail is on strike.

How very annoying for you . I have been waiting for a parcel from England that was posted via FED EX. I am still on holiday. My dad rang me this afternoon FED EX had rang him at the office they had a parcel for me but it only had my name and the town on it!!!! They were clever enough to look my name up on Goole and found a work related entry, hence rang the office and Dad gave them my home address.... So they really seem to care at FED Ex maybe using a courier service pays in the end?

That's interesting, Ivy. I had a phone call the other day from UPS trying to track down the recipient/sender of a parcel. They'd got the name (which wasn't mine) but no address and found something (I presume they'd opened it or something) that mentioned 'Venerable Bead' on it so had got onto the interwebulator and had found my website and rung me. It didn't actually dawn on me until much later that neither my name nor my phone number are listed on the website so where they'd got that from, I've no idea! The parcel wasn't actually anything to do with me but I was quite impressed at the level of effort they'd gone to to try and reunite the parcel with either its sender or recipient.

I am surprised and sorry to hear that some of you have had bad experiences. I have nothing but praise for the excellent service I get from the Royal Mail and the value for money is fantastic.

I expect you know this but if you ask for a proof of posting at the PO if anything goes astray up to the value of about £30 you can get refunded. The PO don't regard a parcel as missing until 15 days have elapsed. You can download the form from their website. Just fill it in and provide some sort of proof of value and the proof of posting and pass it back in to the PO. It takes a bit of time but it does work. I was refunded the value of the item plus the original postage.

Same here Toady. Well not the same items as you obviously cos they were yours and it was mine - well Robot Boys that got lost in my case . . . do keep up. We did get a full refund though even though it wasn't sent recorded and yes it was covered for up to £30.

Best way to send legal documents is probably guaranteed next day CH.

We do sometimes have them come up our track . .. I have never actually sent something by courier . . . have had a lot of stuff delivered - we get a lot of framing and printing paraphernalia brought up our tracks in various vans.
