Cowart's Common Room
New strain of flu

Linked ImageA woman from Stroud has caught Man Flu, prompting fears that women may have become susceptible to a new strain of the disease for the first time. Thirty-five-year-old Andrea Jennings complained of a sore throat and feeling Ďa bit bunged upí and then instead of just struggling on regardless announced she was going to take the day off work and endlessly complain about how ill she was to her partner. It was at this point that government scientists confirmed Andrea was suffering from Man Flu.

ĎIíve had colds before and in many ways this very feels similar,í said Andrea. ĎBut since I realised it was Man Flu Iíve struggled to do anything more strenuous than lying the sofa watching Match of the Day DVDs and reruns of Top Gear. Itís been awful.'

Talking about flu, it really annoys me (grumpy old woman) when people talk about 'having flu' when they are up and about. Last night of X factor, Simon said to Cheryl 'You've really got flu havent you' and she nodded. Well of course she didnt have flu! If you really have flu - which I've only had about twice in my life - then you are ILL big time. You can't get out of bed, you ache, you sweat..... ok rant over.

Westerwitch's Avatar Its the same when people say I have got such a migraine . . . NO you have a headache - it may well be bad, but it isn't a migraine because you would be in bed.

Salle de Bain's Avatar I've heard of this man flu...How long can a bout last? Is 45 years possible? I think I've just made a diagnosis!

Arosebyanyothername's Avatar Yes, totally with you on the flu comments. A colleague was absent from a meeting last week and was reported to have 'flu'. I remarked that nobody seemed to have colds any more it is always flu! Saw her two days later - no sign of a sniffle!

Jackofall's Avatar I liked the husband's comment: ĎAndreaís symptoms are quite similar to what I had a few weeks ago, although when I had it, it was much worse.í

Pondside's Avatar Too, too funny!! I know that I'll never catch that particular strain - after nursing husband and son through many, many bouts over the years I have built up an immunity to Man Flu. I know how debilitating it can be though. I'm so lucky never to get as ill as they - and we can all see the evidence of that in the fact that I'm able to cook, do laundry etc when I come down with a bug, whereas The Great Dane is completely incapacitated - not even able to boil a kettle. I feel very luck to have developed my immunity!

TIGGYWINKLE's Avatar Why does a woman say she has a bit of a pain, and a man is always in excruciating agony? Never figured that one out. Mr. T gets cracking on the top of his index finger, from the large amount of medication he has to take. I know they are annoying, but there's a limit to hearing about each new crack. He won't do what he is told, and in spite of bringing back a collection of creams from America, I still get a detailed daily report. If it continues I may have to chop it off to have a bit of peace. LaughingLaughing and having followed the link I think herding celebrities into pens sounds a real winner. Don't know how to post the link but I think that's worth putting up too.
