Cowart's Common Room

Coincidence or what...? Just read SM's post about getting a puppy (lab vote from me, btw) and was going to tell you tomorrow...but, well, here is the new addition to my family (well, we're going to collect her tomorrow). I think she's called DUFFY, although I'm the only one who likes the name...any other suggestions?

I went shopping this morning for all the bits n' pieces - cost an absolute blurdy fortune, but then this little bundle being my 3rd black lab, I knew it was going to be an expensive trip...Rolling Eyes I've been wanting to get another dog for about 4 years, but it was never the right time, but like SM I'm now working at home (just about to sign another book deal) and the opportunity arose. So, she's going to be my surrogate baby (we've been trying for a 'real' baby for a while now without any success) and hopefully, we will be able to do some gundog trials together - well, that's the aim Confused

Good luck with your puppy hunt, SM....

KittyB's Avatar Awwwww, so very beautiful. I love the way puppies smell, I know that is an odd thing to say, but they do have a special smell.
And good luck with the other baby thing too... keep trying!

LittleBrownDog's Avatar She's GORGEOUS!

Know just what you mean about the puppy smell, Kitty. It's a bit like that new baby smell, but a canine version. I love it, too.

Lampworkbeader's Avatar I'd like a dog but the keen mountain biker says it will only be a problem and we won't be able to travel. I don't travel much as it is 'sob'Crying or Very sad

Westerwitch's Avatar OOoooo puppy smell envy . . . and all that floppy loose skin and the way they are all relaxed and soft . . . and oooooooo. . . . Aw and maybe having her around will help you relax and you will then go on to have a baby as well. So sorry to hear that you are having problems.

And let us know how you get on with signing for your new book and then we can have a party. Whoop whoop.

Sassy after my dog - she looks Sassy . . .

Suffolkmum's Avatar Oh she's adorable Mooia! I'd love a lab - particularly love the black ones and the chocolate ones but our cottage is too small i think, it'd be like having a pony in there!

Posted by: Suffolkmum on 25th Apr 2008 at 03:41PM

Withy Brook's Avatar I love labs too so definitely envy. I was about to say what WW said - re relaxing etc. Thinking of you on that one. Love Withy

Posted by: Withy Brook on 25th Apr 2008 at 04:05PM

Mootia's Avatar Thank you for your thoughts, Withy and WW - it's been tough.
And SM - our cottage isn't that huge either...but hopefully, we'll all fit Confused Puppy smells and loose skin - loverly Wink

It's those soft velvety ears, and paws too big.......

Just keep enjoying the trying, but don't try too hard, if you see what i meanBlink

Suffolkmum's Avatar Yes, meant to say Mootia, took me ages to conceive, try and book a holiday or something where it would be a real pain in the backside to be pregnant - and then just watch, it'll happen because the pressure's off!

Posted by: Suffolkmum on 25th Apr 2008 at 04:26PM

Milla's Avatar sorry to hear about the baby stuff. So many people have problems conceiving and you don't hear about it. SM is right on the money although am sure I lost my last (vile vile miscarriage) because of skiing Embarassed Crying or Very sadCrying or Very sad so pick your holidays carefully! It's horrible, though, when it all becomes a big thing. My sisters in law all seemed to conceive just when their husbands hung their trousers at the end of the bed. Might be worth a trip to the doctor's, too, just to allay any worries. Good luck.

Cait's Avatar My daughter has one sheepdog puppy left if anyone knows anyone in Wales looking for one. (a bitch). Good working stock, used to children, parents can be seen.
I would love to have it but we have two dogs and it wouldn't go down too well with my bitch. I get real broody around puppies and kittens. Agree about the puppy smell, it's lovely.

Posted by: Cait on 25th Apr 2008 at 05:38PM

Very HappyLove the name and it looks like it'll suite her xx

Posted by: Bodran on 25th Apr 2008 at 05:54PM

Hi Mootia

I feel for you trying for a baby-I didn't have any trouble getting pregnant-it was just keeping pregnant. And a close friend of mine is desperate and I know how it is for her.
Hang in there.

In the meantime you will have little Duffy or maybe Midnight? or is that too big a name?

She is totally adorable.
We went to get a black female and came home with our yellow male lab. But when he goes to doggy heaven we'll go for black female again-there will never be another Simba.

Watch your bin if it's a swing bin-we used to have to turn ours backwards or else we'd find a carpet of food picked out!

Fennie's Avatar She looks very tractable and obedient - or was she just looking at food!

Good luck!

Unpeuloufoque's Avatar OOOOHHH love labs have two, they started up cute little things like this but teh blond variety, you shuold see them now must be mad woman...

Posted by: Unpeuloufoque on 25th Apr 2008 at 06:34PM

Woolyworks's Avatar Gorgeous! Completely disarming! Can I have her? Puppy envy, puppy envy...

We, too, have the blond variety and he's stayed a puppy throughout these 7 years--all 100 pounds of him. Great, great dog, but a little overbearing at times, barging around and knocking things over. Labs are so forgiving and not easily offended. I love ours and this little one looks like she'll be a dream for you.

Posted by: Woolyworks on 25th Apr 2008 at 06:43PM

Ivy's Avatar well Duffy indeed. Lovely those black Labs our neighbour has a blond one and I can never resist the ears they are so soft and cuddly. Babies usually come once you settled for a dogVery Happy But Lab and baby works fine seems to be very fashionable where I live

Inthemud's Avatar She looks so cute!

I like Duffy.
Agree with Ivy babies often come once you've something else to take your mind off job in hand so to speak and relax and enjoy!! Pups' just as much hard work as babies, so good practice!!

Posted by: Inthemud on 25th Apr 2008 at 07:01PM

Preseli Mags's Avatar What a totally adorable puppy! You lucky thing! My sister got a black lab as a surrogate baby. Robbie's now a very old dog and my sister has two kids. I hope your black lab has the same effect!!

Posted by: Preseli Mags on 25th Apr 2008 at 07:07PM

Patsy's Avatar Absolutely 100% biased towards black labs adorable, just stroking her will lower your blood pressure, so good for conceiving, I think!

Posted by: Patsy on 25th Apr 2008 at 07:17PM

Faith's Avatar Oh very sweet puppy - I like the name Duffy too. So sorry its taking a long time to conceive - have you tried Foresight? Not sure what the web address is. Anyway, just enjoy the puppy and it will be like 'new house, new baby' except it will be 'new puppy, new baby'.

Posted by: Faith on 25th Apr 2008 at 07:20PM

Vic's Avatar gorgeous! They grow quickly though! Motley is huge now (black lab) but so lovely!

Posted by: Vic on 25th Apr 2008 at 07:23PM

Camilla's Avatar Hi Mootia, how adorable, I WANT.!!

Lily's Avatar Looks a real sweetie.
Took years to get pregnant and then went on to have 3 sons. It was quite a simple matter to sort but investigations took a long time, but all worth it in the end. Hope it happens for you soon.
