Cowart's Common Room
Kilmeedy Lodge Animal Sanctuary

Guess what Andy found wandering along the centre of the main high road in Macroom, a very busy town?

A tiny little 'day old' chick! A fluffy little yellow ball, in the middle of the main road, with lorries whizzing past him in both directions, and no-one stopping to pick the little mite up to take him out of danger.

I got a frantic phone call, telling me to go no-where, as Andy was coming home with this little creature (which, bye the way, Andy said was a 'tiny little duckling' - Jeez...!!! - you'd think he'd know the difference!).

This little chick roared and roared for his Mamma, so I tried bringing a broody hen to him, but she was having none of it, so for the next two days he lived in the bathroom, and in my bra, then I tried him with another broody, and lo! it worked.

So little 'Kalimero', which he has been named, after a Dutch cartoon chick who used to get into loads of adventures, has found a new 'Mama' to love, and the new 'Mama', has found a little 'Kalimero' to love.

Happy ending.....

Westerwitch's Avatar Oh well done Sue and how lovely that it has a happy ending. I am often the one to pick up 'something' from the roadside that everyone else is driving past. HS always says you don;t have to be the one to be responsible - but my feeling is if everyone takes that attitude then who is going to be responsible?

Patsy's Avatar What a kind person you are Sue..We have a generously endowed nurse who usually has something furry stuffed down her bra too though I think she drew the line at baby hedgepigs!Embarassed

Camilla's Avatar You are such a kind and caring person with animals Sue, well done for rescuing little chick, I would have done the same, hate to know animals are in danger or distress.
