Cowart's Common Room
Who freecycles?

Have just managed my first Freecycle transaction - most thrilling. Met the woman in the carpark of a deeply remote pub - we both pulled up....smiled vaguely. I opened up the boot and showed the merchandise (a huge pile of vintage, OK ancient, curtains - yup THOSE curtains). She smiled broadly. We lugged them to her boot. Smiled again and drove off. Both very happy.
Anyone else use this? What is the best thing you've m anaged to get rid of? And the best thing you've managed to get? I am just entranced by the emails that pop into my inbox offering all manner of weird stuff.....

I know a few of you do this - as we discussed it a while back...... Just bored and a bit nosey really!

Milla's Avatar am twitchey and causing trouble (!) waiting for a woman to turn up to take away 2 x chest of drawers from kids' rooms. Have also off loaded table and 6 chairs, wardrobe, futon, endless stuff from old house All tried (unsucessfully) to be sold in local paper, but went quick as you like when free. Still, best to re-use and means we don't have to pay to dispose of.

I havent yet, but my red lace up wellies have now arrived in the Pyrennees having done a detour via Wales! Adds new meaning to the phrase ' these boots are made for walking'

And NO GROANING at my jokes this time!

Exmoorjane's Avatar LOVED those laceup wellies.......and love that they're in the Pyrenees. Groan? Moi?

Preseli Mags's Avatar We managed to Freecycle our phitty old bathroom suite and the guy went off with it with a very pleased look on his face. It certainly saved us taking it to the tip...

SallysChateau's Avatar Freecycle ? still convinced they were shabby chic curtains dearie ....

I did it in London. (oh sounds like a headline) and got rid of some ancient office furniture form my old company I worked at which would have gone into skip instead. A school had it.

Have not attempted it here yet as still haggling with self to get rid of items clogging up house. Trying to be more minimalistic. And failing.

I thought of you Jane the other day as had seen your old curtains advertised (was nearly tempted myself, arghhhh) and was in a charity shop when in comes a Mum asking about things to make school cotsumes out of for her children. Would have made great witchy and King Arthur stuff huh?

Elizabethm's Avatar Have got rid of an old barbecue and piles of cardboard boxes. Have had manure and made a friend. Do get about 25 emails a day so need to keep checking and getting rid or they take over my life.

Withy Brook's Avatar I get the summary and so far have not aquired anything - overcrowded already - and keep meaning to put stuff up - it seems that whatever is your horror, left over, out of date, whatever is someone elses's great desire!

Driving into Inverness the recycling centre(dump) was just off the roundabout. Car and trailer in front of us had a rickshaw in the trailer. A must have we followed him in and got it before the totters spied it. For those who know about such things it was built on a Pashley frame.

Milkmaid's Avatar I registered with a freecycle group, but it seemed deeply complicated, that was before my blogging/purplecoo days I may give it another go as my techno skills have improved
