Cowart's Common Room
Lark Post - Be Enheartened

I do hope our Camilla is OK. She seems to have vanished, melted perhaps in the sunshine, or maybe that part of Norfolk has finally sunk beneath the waves. Still we are all waving and hoping that no real life disasters have come along and if so that we are here - so far as distance allows - to help and encourage. Which is a funny word for while you can discourage and dishearten and encourage you cannot enhearten, which would seem like a useful word.

Some people who could doubtless today do with some enheartening are the Euro candidates from Change UK which party seems to be damp squibbing to a degree. Here in the picture I am talking to a lovely lady who runs a school stationery emporium in town. She is now one of Change UK's euro candidates in Wales and a nicer person would be hard to find. I am sure she would do an excellent job were she ever to be elected. But Change UK seems to be going down in the polls while others are going up.

This is our Town Twinning stall at the recent May Fair. It was cold and with a bitter wind. Many politicians did the rounds and offered support and we signed up one or two potential members. Anyway best wishes to everyone and may the elections bring sweetness and light to our politics though I somehow doubt that they will. Very HappyVery Happy

Re:
Fairy Nuff's Avatar It's in my Dictionary Fennie... Very Happy
enhearten (ɪnˈhɑːtən)
verb (transitive)
to give heart to, encourage.

Did you see in the news the Scottish Labour Party are doing their best for Wales by sending out leaflets all over the highlands in Welsh instead of Gaelic? Laughing With the SNP using a photo of Snowdonia last year in their promo perhaps we should twin Scotland and Wales - I can't see there being much objection.
Since we technically voted last week (postal) it's a bit late for any leaflets to come in now but that's always the way.

Re:
Lampworkbeader's Avatar Morning Fennie. I could do with buckets of enheartening at the moment if there is any to spare... Health problems, rubbish politicians, horribly significant birthday coming up. I've got the lot! Blah! Blah! Blah!

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Well, Lampie here is an enheartening hug for you. The health problems will soon disappear and be forgotten. You need not worry. The rubbish politicians will go too, mind you they will just be replaced by other rubbish politicians, but having rubbish politicians is a disease that comes with ageing and policemen getting younger. As for the HSB, it is only a number, a milestone; and you can always reset the clock. We are all in the same boat. Very HappyLaughing

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Well I never did! FN, I have never heard it before. Heart and Coeur come apparently from the same Sanskrit root - one by a northern - er - route (Old German/Norse etc) and one by a southern. So we have two words. The Welsh for heart is 'Calon' as in 'Calon Lan.' The 'c' mutates to a 'g' or to an 'ngh' depending on what precedes it.

At least in Scotland you noted. I am not sure how many here would notice if the leaflets had been in Gaelic apart from nerds like me.Shocked

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar Don’t want any twinning nonsense. I want my three parental countries to stay one nation, even if governed by rubbish MPs!

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Thank you kindly dear Fennie for posting for the Larks. No I am still in the land of the living and have not melted away or shrunk beneath the waves.Laughing

As for the Euro well what can I say... another PM who has only been in office for the duration of just over 2 years matching I think Labour's Brown almost this 29th of the month. I think she will step down and I hear that Boris said he would like to be in the running for the post. Good pic Fennie of you at the Town Twinning.Very Happy
