Cowart's Common Room
Afternoon Post

Afternoon All,

A dryer day today with some intervals of sunshine against a puffy cloud sky.

I hear parts of the UK are to brace themselves for the arrival of Storm Hannah this evening at 21.00hrs to 15.00hrs tomorrow. Could affect the coastline here too with big waves. Hold onto ye hats.!

Off to mow the lawns in the front garden in a moment have I got the energy, not really but it must be done and then a small grocery shop later after more walks with Patch too.

Did you see The Painting Challenge last night on TV? have been following it through the weeks and last night it was the final. The last celebrities had to paint their final piece at The British History Museum and had to choose what they individually would like to paint as their subject. I loved the Giraffe one and pleased that this was the top winner.

Have a good day everyone.Very HappyLinked Image

Fennie's Avatar Now, who is coming to tea? Who will eat the cakes with the little Austrian flags. Maybe Freud is coming, leaving his couch for an armchair, though his was always the armchair, you were on the couch with a neurosis or two and perhaps some hysteria, while he stayed with his notebook and let you talk. It's called talking therapy - but it might be called listening therapy. The doctor does the listening. To call it talking therapy would be like calling heart surgery a lying unconscious with lots of tubes in you therapy. Listening therapy, then, and here we practice writing therapy. You read and we write, in this instance about green tables and Austrian cakes and big wicker chairs. Maybe the baker is called Anne - Anne of Green Tables, except there is but one table and she is not a baker but a stationer or a printer. If one of the cakes fell on the floor and the cream oozed out and Freud came along and fell over would we talk about it as a Freudian slip? And would we laugh? Laughter being always the best medicine, or so they say, though laughter isn't much good for a heart attack. I have just read a story in which someone goes to a Pantomime and has a heart attack. It's by Beryl Baimbridge. The Pantomime was Peter Pan. There were no Austrian Cakes in it and Freud wasn't listening. I met Freud's son once, Clement, and I think he died from a heart attack too. Fennie's Avatar It's a mad world. I seem busier than ever. I have just drafted a long letter for our Mayor here to send to the Mayor of Ortigueria, a town in Galicia in Spain with whom we have vague aspirations of twinning. In English not in Spanish. Galicia is that bit of Spain in the top left hand corner. It is like Wales only warmer and so very green. Rolling Eyes

Camilla's Avatar You are a busy bee Fennie, will there eventually be then a town twinning with Galacia I know you have a town twinning with France.

Withy Brook's Avatar When we were in Galacia, no one spoke English. Quite testing for us extremely basic Spanish speakers! That was on the West coast

Fairy Nuff's Avatar Only Fennie could get from Austrian cakes to heart attacks at pantomimes. Laughing I wonder what Freud would have made of your word (or perhaps thought) association Fennie. Very Happy

We watched the Art challenge Camilla, quite enjoyed watching their different styles and approaches as it went on, Julia was a worthy winner I think as she really took on board the tuition and tips she was getting from the mentors and judges. Laurence is a fantastic artist but never quite got out of his old style of painting to embrace the change he wanted.
