Cowart's Common Room
Afternoon Post

Afternoon All,

Another lovely sunny day with a warm gentle breeze, 18 degrees here today.

Front gardens need mowing again will do either later today or skip until Friday, know we are to have rain tomorrow. Hollyhocks are getting very tall again this year, no flowers yet they will appear on 1st July but I will need to get them staked again soon with the bamboo canes, I gave my Hebes plant I had in the garden which the previous owner left, I had intended to plants some bush roses there instead last year, so dug up the Hebes plant and gave it to my son in law him being a keen gardener, but the Hebes must have seeded as another tall one has already grown in its place this Spring and I never got round to planting the bush roses. Also I see the Euphorbia plant has seeded again too which I had previously dug up last year knowing it was quite toxic. So that's more jobs for me when I get round to it.

Hope everyone is well, have a good day everyone.Very HappyLinked Image

Fairy Nuff's Avatar Had a lovely talk from Lucy Bellamy (gardener and editor of Gardens Illustrated) at the book festival last week about her new book and the wildlife friendly "new perennial" movement in gardening.
Sounds right up my street with our current lack of time to garden - once it's all planted you leave it to get on with it until the following spring then cut it all back just before the new growth starts. It would work nicely in our weird higglety pigglety ground surface too.Very Happy

Camilla's Avatar Any relation to David Bellamy I wonder? love the sound of that book FN. Mind you I have huge amounts of gardening books sat on the shelve. Love Perennials too, hardy annuals just don't seem to last as long.

Could you have Hollyhocks in your garden FN? I wish I saved the seeds from last years ones I meant to take some even send some to Fennie but completely forgot to save end of last year.

Camilla's Avatar HahaVery Happy yes indeed Fennie it was Marylebone Registry Office huge grey building with the two Lion statues outside. Was you there working in 1970 in London though?

Fennie's Avatar Of course. I was working for the National Institute of Industrial Psychology in Welbeck Street and living in Wimpole St, just round the corner. Very Happy

Fairy Nuff's Avatar She comes from the north of England from parents with no background in ecology or gardening so I don't think she's a relative of David's.
I'm looking forward to reading her book.

As for the Wedding anniversary then...
