To Ikea yesterday evening to buy a mattress and also to have our supper at unfeasibly cheap IKEA rates in their refurbished dining hall (see pic). I had 10 meatballs in gravy with mashed potato, peas, gravy and a spoonful of loganberry jam while J had a prawn salad washed down with two cups of coffee and the bill for the two of us was £8.10!

One of the things I like IKEA for is that - despite the occasional photograph of the Queen - it makes you feel you are living in a republic. People of every station seem to go there eating the same food and buying the same furniture. It is a great leveller. I also like its cosmopolitan nature: it must employ staff (co-workers, please) from every nation under the sun. Of course thanks to its former status as the world's premier coal port, Cardiff is home perhaps to more nationalities than perhaps anywhere else in Britain. So it is a delightful mix of languages and humanity with of course the name of every article in Swedish.

We went to buy a mattress. Ikea's are recommended by Which and guaranteed for 25 years which should cover me for the rest of my days though as you are supposed to change your mattress every eight years I am not sure how you keep it long enough to check. The new one is rolled up in the back of the car. Now I have to think how to dispose of the old one. The Council have started to charge £15 for collecting things like mattresses (as well as raising the already exhorbitant council tax by almost 5%) I could take it to the tip but am not sure how to get it in the car without a factory machine to roll it up.

Anyway there we are. I must get on. Have a good day folk. The sun is shining here.

Re:
Fairy Nuff's Avatar Sun shining here too, just had a lovely morning stroll around Grantown (see next post where I've just realised I forgot the W in Grantown)Rolling Eyes
Looking lovely all week... too nice to be sat indoors, even if the speakers are really good.
You could always put the old mattress in the garden and let the Kids use it as a trampoline until its squashed enough to get in the car!Laughing

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Afternoon All,

Just arrived back from the vets where Patch had to have another consultation re his allergy ear, ear now has a fungus in so Patch had to have a antibiotic injection bless him. Vet said I can begin using the Periton allergy tabs for him again which I am quite pleased about as vet said previously not to take with his new diet food. I know the antihististine tabs will help a lot and save his ear from becoming more inflamed. Nothing to pay as it is an ongoing going complaint so insurance will pay out if going over £100.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar My son shops a lot in Ikea Fennie too and no doubt he and his family too eat there with little girls, enjoy your new mattress. You can always put your old mattress to give away on Freecycle Fennie someone will be glad of it and this will save you having to take to the skip.Very HappyLinked Image

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Lovely sunny warm day here although driving back earlier on the journey I saw a thick mist rolling in.

Just had lunch and off to take Patch for his afternoon walk later.

Fennie's Avatar If she was a princess - which we really don't know - then surely she wouldn't have been so impolite as to criticise her host's bed. Very Happy
