Cowart's Common Room

Up to the lambing shed yesterday. Lots of very fat sheep loose, and more in pens with lambs. We were directed to one lady who was straining away, with one lamb already born. We soon saw that there was a head but progress seemed to have stopped. Called up M who immediately said to Daddy, “off with your coat” and the next thing he knew he was pulling the wee thing out and clearing its head of sack etc. We were then told that she was having a third and Daddy found himself with his hand inside finding a second foot and the head! A successful delivery ensued. As Daddy flies the dream liner for a living, he was somewhat bemused by what he had just achieved!
The next thing M did was to spray the children’s names on a yow each and the two babies of each, which really delighted the 4 and 3 year-olds.
Definitely the highlight of their visit.
As we left, another lady was straining away but a little of the birth.

Faith's Avatar That's lovely Withy - good for the little ones to see animals being born. Bill's son is a sheep farmer too.

Fennie's Avatar I wonder there is not more connection between shepherds and midwives but apart from one of my own I have never seen an instance of it. Very Happy

Lampworkbeader's Avatar Wasn't Daddy in for a surprise! Very Happy And who knows he might find the experience useful one day while up in the skies with dreamliner. Confused But I hope not.
