Cowart's Common Room

I learned yesterday that we have two day trips proposed with the VOGANTM which is not some secret society but the local NT association.

We are going in June for a trip on the Brecon Mountain Railway and then to Cyfarthfa Castle. The BMR is a narrow gauge line snaking up towards Brecon from Merthy Tydfil, once the second city the Empire, on which most improbably an American locomotive operates complete with cowcatcher and more domes than Florence (see picture).

Cyfarthfa Castle is Ironmaster Richard Crawshay's idea of a medieval castle complete with 150 acres of garden and art gallery. On a fine day both of these are wonderful attractions though Merthyr's geography is challenging it being nearer the clouds than almost any other spot in Wales, though once it produced all the iron the world could use.

Anyway that is to entertain us in June and in July we are off to Dynevor Castle in West Wales, painted dramatically by Turner shrouded in mists and nestling on a cliff above the river Teifi, and from whose towers you can see the dragons of Carmarthen and hear them roaring across the land. If not there's always the bleating of the sheep.

Have a good day folks. Very HappyVery Happy

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar Brecon is the Home of my Fathers but I did not know about that railway. Very funny that they have an American engine!

Fairy Nuff's Avatar That looks just like the train from "Back to the future" I hope it doesn't go faster than 88 mph! Very Happy

They both sound like interesting trips Fennie.
