Cowart's Common Room
Afternoon Post

Afternoon All,

Gosh it's cold, the very blustery wind continues and a few moments ago it began with sleet coming down on way back from dunes. It's at times like this I miss my roaring open log wood burner. Central Heating is set for a couple of hours early morning, and then for three hours early evening, can switch on the mock electric wood burner with cosy flames but it eats money... hey ho.Very Happy

Enjoy the rest of the day everyone.Very Happy

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Here it is cold but sunny. Little wind. Hard frost last night.
I am afraid our CH is on from 7am until 11pm. It is gas, supplemented by electric fires where necessary. Rather an odd sort of fireplace, that. Any idea where it comes from? I take it that it isn't yours?Very HappyVery Happy

Re:
Camilla's Avatar I expect your house is lovely cosy and warm then Fennie, is gas more cheaper than electric? We have oil fired here.

No not my wood burner Fennie, I wish. My one is an electric mock one in the colour Barley, a sort of light mushroom shade.Very Happy

Re:
Fennie's Avatar I suppose because it is not original - it seems to be built out from the wall and into the hearth with a mantelshelf on top of the lintel.

Camilla, yes in a word; it is cheaper. The house is warm in parts. Very Happy

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar We have oil too. It is on, at this time of year, 6.15 to 10.00 and 4.00 to 8.00. We can add an hour at any time if we want. As the weather warms up, we gradually reduce it, till it is off altogether.
Being an old house and listed, it is hard to insulate, especially windows. I have to admit that we keep it on more now we are old.
