Cowart's Common Room
Sunny lark

Second morning running with bright sunshine! What a contrast with the past goodness knows how long when dark and damp! Sharp frost this morning too - first time properly below zero this winter.
It does make one feel better.
Later we are both, at different times, off to our local Auctioneers. I am first, hoping to buy a trio of 18 th century drinking glasses. OH is after 2 pictures and a Chinese panel which is very pretty.. I expect we will all come home empty handed!

Re:
Fairy Nuff's Avatar We had to scrape the frost off the car this morning for the first time this winter but a lovely sunny day to go with it.

I've not been to an auction in years, mind you when the auction house was in the centre of town you could go in and have a browse at any time and often if you offered a reasonable sum for anything not too valuable you had your eye on the Auctioneer was happy to sell it there and then.
My best buy was a mug of four tatty looking old fans for a whole 50p! One was modern and worth the 50p anyway the other three turned out to be a Victorian blue silk on bone sticks in pretty good nick, a painted wooden brise from about 1790 and a 4 way wooden brise from about 1760! The old ones only needed re strung.Very Happy

Good luck at the auction Withy.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Morning Withy and everyone,

Thank you for posting for the larks Withy.

Yes we have some lovely sunshine here too this morning so different from yesterday when it was dark and grey and rainy, but yes Mr Frosty was about this morning and possibly the coldest so far.

How exciting Withy, I love going to Auctions in fact I wouldn't mind working in an auction room. Just wish I had not sold a 1924 watercolour of the Knight on a Flighted Horse which I think was Russian. I made £250 for it way back in the early 80's. It was given to me by my late MIL but times were hard and my HL made me sell it.

Hope you get the drinking glasses Withy and your OH gets his 2 pictures and the Chinese panel. One just can't go to an auctioneers without coming back with something Withy.Very Happy

Have a good day everyone.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar I love fans too FN, when my mother died my sister must have had the bright emerald silk fan which my father brought back from India just after the war.

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar Unfortunately there was a man in the room who just kept on going up till I reached my limit. The problem is that a 24% commission and VAT ADD-on means that each rise is higher than the figure you are bidding, if you follow me!
I hope OH gets something but doesn’t go mad!

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Yes, frost even here too this am.

I am not very good at auctions and come back with things that not even I wanted.

Sad

Re:
Lampworkbeader's Avatar A slight frost here too. Anything is better than the continuous drizzle we've had for days.

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar LaughingOH did exactly that today. He thought he was bidding for a fancy panel and found that he had bought the one before! Not something he would normally buy but when they said they would resell it, decided to keep it. We both rather like it!
