Cowart's Common Room
Wet and Windy Lark

Wet windy and generally miserable day here this morning but not much sign of the amber warning stuff published on the weather forecast. Nevertheless I may be speaking too soon and while I have survived breakfast I may be washed away by tea-time. One or two seagulls in the sky; I never know what they do but I suppose it might be less interesting than sitting or squatting on a cold cliff. Or maybe not so cold for the wind, though blowy, is disconcertingly mild, almost summery, like Heaven has turned on the hair dryer.

Have a good day folks. Day of catching up for me. Very HappyVery Happy

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Morning Fennie and everyone, thank you for posting for the larks Fennie.

Strong winds and a sunny sky here and rising to 24 degrees later today. We do have that fierce wind blowing again today as it was yesterday too. I have a pale blue ceramic hanging planter in the back garden I have taken it down for now for fear of it crashing to the ground. Hollyhocks are still blooming which is amazing.

No plans for today although we may pop over to see our daughter and son in law this afternoon.

Enjoy your day Fennie and everyone.Very Happy

Re:
Camilla's Avatar I was thinking yesterday why does not my old PC work anymore, my old Windows 8, and also remembered too that lots of family photo's are stored on it. When I got my new Windows 10 laptop and new browser I stopped using the old PC but for a short while I kept going back to it because I can copy and paste from the old one but not this new one I have, I was also able to look at my old photo's stored on my old PC. Now I can't get any access to my old PC at all . When I tried logging on to my old one recently it kept saying no disc... but there was no disc before but I was able to view photo's before from it when there was no disc. Any Techy wizards who can help me … answers on a postcard please, thanks.Very Happy

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Saw an advert in the post office window yesterday a man advertising his skills with anyone having computer problems, I would give him a ring except they cost an arm and a leg I expect.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar All of my wedding pics are stored on my old PC, I have the originals in photo form of course in an album but would be great if I could download the pics perhaps to my new files on laptop.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Uploaded Image

Picture is of a Sea Holly plant, apparently it flowers well in late summer well into the winter time, pretty isn't it.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Just learnt that some of the Sea Hollys don't do very well in wet winters, I had not realised there is more than one variety of these plants.

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Morning Camilla, Can't help much I am afraid. I would try an old disc and if that didn't work click ESC or ctrl - Q. If that fails just type the problem into google and see what comes up in the forums. If that doesn't work look to your computer man. You can always ask him his charges. Very Happy

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar Don’t know why you can’t access your old desk top.
Are you using the cloud for storage? I am and you can get pictures etc down onto any up to date machine, though I did have a bit of difficulty with my desktop, they are all down-loaded there now. However this does not help with the old pictures on your old machine, until they are retrieved and put on an up to date one. Go and talk to the guy who’s advertised and get advice and ask for his prices.

Re:
Fairy Nuff's Avatar Most good IT technicians can retrieve data from old hard drives even if the computer isn't working but it sometimes means taking the hard drive out of the computer.
PC world can certainly do it they charge £35ish for data transfer and about £90 to recover the hard drive.
HO has done it himself from our old computers with a bit of tech wizardry.

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Just started on that terrible annual job of sweeping up the fallen leaves. One bag collected. There'll be another bag tomorrow . . .and the next day. Sad

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Thanks FN, what I would like to know is are my photo's on old PC just stored in the black tower, there is no disc in there at least there was not when I last looked. It must be on the hard drive then is it? Think I will wait until my son arrives for his visit end of next week if not then I shall have to get a computer technician in. Trying to save money in piggy bank at the moment as the old washing machine/dryer is on the blink would have to be the time when HL decided to splash out and buy a new TV for £800.Rolling EyesSmile

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Your computer probably has a CD ROM drive. Suppose it was switched off in the middle of some task reading or writing from this CD-ROM, but then the disc was removed, then the computer might expect to find a CD ROM when switched on again but if it couldn't find one then it would say 'NO DISC' - so perhaps you could put a disc in and see whether that helped, or press the escape button to get out of that programme. Very Happy

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Oh yes of course Fennie I think the old one did have a CD Rom drive, but the disc where is it? It obviously has to be the original disc I presume but what if I can't find the original disc ? Will have a look later and see what I can do, thanks Fennie.
