Cowart's Common Room
Lark Post

I am still winding down I think after the hecticity of the past weekend. Anyway I slept deeply last night and the sun is shining this morning.

There was a great crow, or maybe rook, on the roof of the bird table, shivering it's wings and calling angrily to its parents. When it opened its bill you could see write down its throat all red and raw and the gape seemed wide enough to swallow an onion or maybe more probably a small mammal. Indeed the whole size and blackness of it was menacing: the shrouding wings held out, the wicked eyes, the harsh cries . . . eventually it just flew off like any other bird, juvenile no longer.

I do hope everyone is well and active. Yesterday I had to drive to Ogmore by Sea to deliver some boxes. As the name implies it is very close to the sea and the house while facing inland was built into the cliff. (In Wales there is a great propensity for building houses on or into the sides of cliffs and hills which is why I suppose so many here die from heart conditions). Anyway this house had magnificent views from the upper stories at the rear (I was told) but was approached by steep steps leading down from the road above and an even steeper and narrow driveway that must be totally impassable after the mildest frost. Eventually I delivered the boxes and extricated the car but it wasn't an experience I would wish everyday, despite the views.

Fennie's Avatar And now for something completely different here is a photo of our team in the Treasure Hunt which required a photo of us all sitting on a slide (tobogan in French, for some reason) Top to bottom Jean-Charles, Beatrice, me and Ghislaine (who is tiny). Very HappyVery Happy

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Morning Fennie and everyone, thank you kindly Fennie for posting for the larks , I was just about to post and see you had best me to it.

What a very hot muggy night it was last night here, my electric trusty fan has been working overtime so pleased I had it on last night to cool.

Front lawn needs mowing but not sure my old hip will allow it, will see how I go later.

Saw a wee fledgling bird dead on our back path a few days ago poor wee thing either fell from nest or neighbours cat got it.Sad

Did you have to climb those steep steps to deliver box Fennie? Sounds like the house from Rebecca in Cornwall.

Fairy Nuff's Avatar Love the photo - not been on a treasure hunt for years.
There are some pretty hairy houses up here too, I'd like to live by the sea but in a nice sheltered cove not half way down a cliff!

Is the grass up to your knees Camilla? If not it can wait another couple of weeks!Very Happy

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Haha.... No grass not up to my knees FNVery Happy but it has a lot of weeds in with weeny white daisies in and dandelions here and there. The previous owners obviously did not treat it. I not only mow my front lawn but next doors too and the little patch of grass at the end to another property so that's 3 lawns only one is mine ! Reason being that next door neighbour never mows his he rents his house if I don't mow it then it makes my front lawn look untidy as none is fenced off. One at far end is second home that never gets done either .
