Scones and thunder rain!

In a fortnight we are having a Church Garden Party to raise much needed funds. I have rashly said that I will provide scones - teas are to be a filled roll, a scone with cream and strawberry jam and a piece of tray bake. This makes the service much easier and certainly my job on the till. I have made some scones already and intend to make lots more next week. What did we do before freezers?!
This afternoon we had a little distant thunder, accompanied by numerous very heavy thunder plumps, as usual with very little wind. Then suddenly, we had a last, huge amount of thunder type rain accompanied by a very strong wind. Never seen a plump like it.

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Never heard of thunder plumps before but I suppose it's a Northumbrian word, is it? We've not had any thunder here and precious little rain. Just blue skies and real holiday weather. Good luck with the scones. You don't freeze the jam and cream I take it, or do you?Very Happy

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar Thunder plumps - part of my vocabulary all my life, so perhaps Yorkshire. It is a good description of the very heavy, shortish showers, which can have hail in them, that usually fall straight down when thunder is about.
Our gardener, who lives about 11 miles away as the crow flies, was amazed to find everything still wet here today! He had had a very little very light rain!
Others are adding the cream and jam on the day, I hope!
