Cowart's Common Room
Lark Post

Morning Larks,

Very taxing day yesterday and was hoping to get a good nights sleep but not so... well 6 hours but I feel like I have been up all night, still the sun is shining and the weather much brighter and not so dark and grey and foggy as it was yesterday.

A huge Ocean Sea Gull still lies dead as a Dodo over on part of the Dunes here, so sad to see. I can see no puncture wounds to its body, perhaps it just got old and died there or perhaps it has eaten a fish that had got caught up with plastic, if this is the case how terribly sad this would be. The world is full of plastic I just hope with all the media coverage lately that Manufacturers will take note to stop this, we also need to educate others on the harm we are doing to our wildlife... I shall get off my plinth now.Very Happy

Have a good day everyone, and happy weekend to one and all.Very HappyLinked Image

Fennie's Avatar Lovely room Camilla. Sad about the gull. So many possible reasons for death including old age. Poisoning by plastic or weedkiller etc is also a possibility. Maybe the local wildlife centre could advise on a postmortem. Perhaps the gull will be eaten by the seals or foxes, in which case they might be poisoned too. FN could probably advise better.

Quite right to rant about the plastic.Very HappyVery Happy

Fairy Nuff's Avatar Don't know how interested the authorities are on doing autopsies on gulls. Most protected species are autopsied if at all possible to find out more about the cause. Up here it's the Agricultural college that does them and they either pick up the body themselves or via the SSPCA etc. depends on the circumstances in which it's found and who finds it.

Don't get me started on plastics!

Camilla's Avatar Thank you Fennie, just think the Gull needs at least a burial rather then to just lay there too, Patch was sniffing it out yesterday I had to make him come away from it just in case it was poison. I think perhaps get in touch with our local Marine Wildlife and see what they say.
