Cowart's Common Room
Antique?

Where's Fiona Bruce when I need herLaughing

So, this is, I think, an antique tureen. Was it passed down through the family to me? No. I found it sitting on the ground at the recyling bins and thought it must be broken, but it isn't. So I took it home. I don't feel bad about this as two things would've happened to it if I hadn't - 1. Someone else would've taken it or 2. Someone would've broken it.

It could do with a gentle wash and does appear to have some little paint speckles on it, but I will clean it up. It is marked Davenport Myrtle. I presume Myrtle is the pattern but I can't find anything about it on the internet. I found a similar looking Davenport tureen which sold for $600 so maybe finding it was my lucky day!

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Oh lucky you Faith, how wonderful.!

Have not got time to look now as rushing about at the moment, I have an old Miller's Antique book somewhere will look it up when I get time, although you may be able to find out more on the internet. Failing that if you have an auctioneer room near you pop it along and get an estimate it might be worth a considerable sum.

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar I was going to suggest that, too, Camilla. Auctioneers would value it for you. It could be good.

Re:
Faith's Avatar There used to be an auctioneers right next door to us - literally next door in the old building used as a warehouse. But they did a moonlight.... and now we have someone selling posh riding bootsLaughing

I might find somewhere else and get it valued, thanks.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Faith I have just had a look on the Google and it directed me to the vintage Ruby Lane website one sold there so similar to yours for over 600 dollars.

Also have a look on the Millers guide website type in ceramics from the left hand side and type in Davenport Tureens they also had an estimate for one recently for over £400!

Take along if you can to auctioneers Faith I think it's worth a lot money will come in handy for Christmas.Very Happy

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Hi Faith,

I think the one you have looks so much like the one sold on Ruby Lane website.
