Cowart's Common Room
Windy Lark

Well, the night was properly windy and I felt transported to Florida, though of course their winds are one hundred miles more powerful than ours and this morning there's no obvious damage (touch wood) apart from two cushions sucked by the wind out of the garden bench and that is entirely my fault for not placing a heavy weight on the liftable seat. Anyway they are now drying off.

Last night was another Music Festival concert. Some terrible Shostakovich in the first half, some rather enlivening Tchaikovsky in the second, which drew a standing ovation from the audience. I have decided that - apart from film scores - I am not keen on any music written after 1900 unless it is Elgar (or possibly Bernstein) and even some written before 1900 was clearly going off the rails.

And before that we had the usual gang over for a lovely lunchtime meal that J had cooked. Of course I ate too much as I always do on these occasions and then dozed off when they all had gone. So that it was time for the concert and afterwards there was no time for more than a biscuit or piece of toast before it was bedtime and then the usual awakening, this time with hunger (I kid you not) at 3 am and the usual trip after half and hour or so of temptation, descending to the cold flags of the kitchen to take bread and honey and milk.

Then - following FN's valiant advice - an attempt to fantasize. So for the next half an hour I wrote in my mind a piece of music for the piano, rather Chopinesque but none the worse for that. This morning of course I remember nothing of it not even the main notes of the theme, but even if I had been able to remember it I would not have been able to write it down or even to hum it.

But the time was usefully and pleasurably spent, and when the music was ended I fell asleep again, so thank you, FN, for your advice.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Morning Fennie and everyone,

Apologies never made it to the perch last night it seems to be happening a lot lately moi drifting off to down pillows earlier than expected. Thank you for posting Fennie.

Yes was windy here yesterday and last night but no damage and all seems to be none the worse for wear this morning.

What was the piece of music by Shostakovich Fennie? Wonder if it was the piece I heard way back at The open air proms here in Blickling Norfolk. A whole gang of us descended there for the evening the car boot was packed with candelabras food hampers, blankets and fold up chairs to sit by the lakeside and listen to the classical music and it was then I first heard Shostakovich.

Sorry to hear you did not have quite such a good night again Fennie, perhaps if it occurs again you can enter into a bedside diary your thought or a poem or some sentences for a short story that way it all being written down all will not be lost.Very Happy

Rather a cool blustery day today but filled with lots of sunshine. Hope everyone had a good weekend .Very Happy

Re:
Fairy Nuff's Avatar I hope that's not Isadora Duncan about to get her scarf caught in the wheel of her Bugatti! Blink

Glad you found the fantasising worked Fennie (even if you did have to get up out of hunger) I have learned not to worry about not remembering any ideas I have as I've found they will eventually resurface during waking hours if they are any good and the idea is to let your mind run free not remember things anyway. Very Happy
