Cowart's Common Room
La plume de ma tante

French conversation at the Bear Hotel this morning with a very pleasant lady called Carinne. Always good to practice your French. £5 for an hour's 'parley-vous' or whatever, plus a coffee or in my case a lime and soda. Four of us there, and we competed mightily with a mothers and toddlers' group for volume. Not kind to my battered ears.

A tad depressed to realise that I cannot see an opportunity that might require me to speak better French, moving to France seeming ever more of an impossibility. We are doing it again next week I am given to understand. So much for watching the pennies. I really am an old curmudgeon.

The birds seem to have returned to the garden. So too one of the teenage rats. No sign of the hedgepig. I have swept up all the feathers. I am inclined to think it was a hawk but that the pigeon got away, minus some holes in his clothing.
