Cowart's Common Room
Bees at The Ritz

Some of you may remember I had tea at The Ritz on my 60th birthday this year - and now they send me emails. I thought this was interesting - see below. I also have details somewhere about buying a share in a hive, which I intend to do - and will post info when I find it. Every day at the mo I am going over to my daughter's to help out with the new baby so she can get some rest, as he is not settling well at night so I am busy as a bee and not much time at all for anything else!

Ritzy Bees!!!

This summer, in recognition of our commitment to the future well-being of the environment, we installed three beehives on top of our 6th floor office roof, with approximately 60,000 Buckfast bees from a local bee farm in neighbouring Surrey, in each hive.

At The Ritz, we understand that our hotel’s day-to-day operations have an impact on the environment and we recognise our social responsibility. The declining honeybee population in the UK has been widely documented and honeybees are essential to the ecosystem of our planet as pollinators. The new Beez@TheRitz initiative has involved lots of different members of the team.

Working in conjunction with the London Bee Keeper Association, we have trained 12 internal beekeepers who, under the direction of Guillaume Brard, Executive Sous Chef, and Paul Winfield-Brown, Maintenance Manager, will be responsible for nurturing and protecting the bees in a healthy environment.

The Ritz honey will be used across the hotel within The Ritz Restaurant, The Palm Court, The Rivoli Bar as well as The Ritz Salon.

Withy Brook's Avatar Well done the Ritz! Good luck to them.
I hope the baby settles soon. Night time wakers are exhausting.

Fairy Nuff's Avatar I should think there are hundreds of suitable roofs around our cities to keep a few bees to service the back gardens and parks.

Hope the little chap settles down soon.

Fennie's Avatar If you've got a hive of bees
And you fear they'll make you sneeze
You are down in old London
But you don't know what can be done
Just put them on the Ritz.

Very Happy
