Cowart's Common Room
Virginia Creeper

A question for you gardeners: we have here a creeper growing in great abundance that I have always though was Virginia Creeper but which I now realise may not be. It has five branched leaves. But yesterday while we were marooned at the Compass Inn I noted that this was festooned also with what I would have called 'Virginia Creeper' but the leaves of this were all of a piece and spade shaped. Which is the real one? Very Happy

Lampworkbeader's Avatar Virginia creeper leaves have five separate leaflets, rather like fingers. The Boston Ivy is more like a 'proper' ivy shape leaf, in that all the pieces of the leaf are joined in a spade shape. It also inclines to be much redder in colour throughout the year, while a Virginia creeper starts of green and turns red in the autumn. I hope that helps.

Fennie's Avatar So what I saw was Boston Ivy, perhaps. Here the creeper creeps or rather runs rather quickly, up down, around always throwing out new shoots and tendrils suffocating anything it come across. Rolling Eyes
