Cowart's Common Room
Plated Lark

Everyone must be sweltering in the heat, or something. The Coo is deserted. But I was cheered up by three things this afternoon after my triannual blood pressure lecture at the doctor's. The first was a lovely little framed text in a shop window which read "I believe in unicorns." Then a bit further on I saw a young woman with curly green hair. Why this should have cheered me I don't know, but it did. And then I was passing the Emmaus shop and there in the window was a wonderful plate - square and with a square 'well' inside it - ideal for olives on a summer afternoon - or for anything really - and large enough to be useful. It was after 5pm but the lovely lady in the shop took pity on me and opened up and let me buy it. It was only £4.50 - all beautiful Mediterranean cobalt and sunny yellow - no great ceramic masterpiece, but bright and sunny and friendly. I would have given double the price and afterwards regretted that I hadn't what with the 120 families left homeless by the Towering Inferno in Kensington and Emmaus being a homeless charity. Dr G's parting shot was to send me for a fasting blood test next week to check my cholesterol etc. Why? I have lived for 71 years without knowing what it is. I care not one jot. Will knowing my cholesterol fix my increasingly leaky memory? No. But they will no doubt find something or other to 'keep an eye on.' Oh dear, once the NHS gets you in its clutches it is hard to get out - though I have always to remember that they did actually save my life once when an Alsatian bit me deeply and I contracted septicaemia. But there are plenty of people considerably ill-er than me, for which I suppose I should give some sort of thanks. I shall fill my plate with olives and have a glass of chilled white wine in the sunshine. Here's health to everyone, at least until the results of the blood tests are in. Very HappyVery Happy

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Thank you for posting Fennie, pains have set me back a bit so sorry not around much yesterday, and it was scorching hot indeed with the weather phew!

The Olive plate sounds really lovely Fennie and I am sure will be very useful perhaps when not using for Olives you could use it for tiny red cherries too.
Very Happy

Such sad news about the fire in London.

Know you loathe going to the health service Fennie, but Cholesterol checks are good I think at least that way you can be monitored and blood pressure too are so important. Sorry to hear about the dog bite, gosh how awful for you and septicaemia too. Fingers crossed for you for the blood tests soon.

Perhaps the lady with green hair you saw was she that put that little quote in the shop window all along.
Very Happy

Have a good day everyone.

Re:
Fairy Nuff's Avatar Very Happy to the plate Neutral to the olives, another food stuff I wish I liked, they look so promising then when I put one in my mouth... bleagh!

I had a dental check up first thing yesterday morning, I suspected I had the start of an abscess in my front tooth so one swift root canal later I was back at work before HO had finished his cup of coffee. Laughing
Never had a root canal take such a short time, well seeing it was easily accessible plus all the modern gizmos they have to help nowadays.

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Oh you poor thing, FN. And never a complaint. Well done. Suffer in silence. You must have a good dentist.

Olives are a bit of an acquired taste. And some are better than others. Very Happy

Re:
Fairy Nuff's Avatar Gone are the days of a root canal being a huge job by lunch time the only tender spot was the site of the injection, hopefully that will be it sorted.
It was the Boss that did it, my own dentist has just landed in hospital after coming off his bike and breaking his scapula, three months in there at least and heavens knows how long to recover... the Boss said it looks like he may be out of Dentistry for good since it's his dominant hand. Shocked

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Oh yes those injections in the gums are really horrid to deaden the nerve before work on teeth and then afterwards not knowing where ones tongue is and mouth swollen up because of it. Well done FN for being a brave soldier.

Cerikey poor dentist who came off his bike poor man.Blink
