Cowart's Common Room

A sad sight this morning when I drew the blinds. Mrs Tiggy Winkle, or one of her ilk, lay dead in the road and a jackdaw was already removing a chunk of her insides. How come? Our road isn't busy at any time except possibly during the school run; and at night and on Sundays it is virtually deserted. There's the occasional boy racer of course but fortunately such desperado types are rare. So what hit poor Mrs T? Or how come she did not manage to escape the narrow track of tyre that did for her?

Maybe she rolled herself into a ball, which we all feel like doing from time to time, the better to ignore the world. Or she may, of course, simply have died of a heart attack or old age or a stroke. The Russians have a joke about a hedgehog crossing the road and dying in the middle of it from presumed natural causes. I even included it in 'the Russian Chocolate Maker's Lover.'

I'd certainly prefer to think that the Winkle family knew grandma was on her last legs and were hoping for a quick end than that grandma was young with a brood of little ones and the ironing already starched and stacked by the fire. She might have been delivering some newly gophered (I've been longing to use that word in a post) ruffs to our neighbours hereabouts, though I saw no sign of a basket in the road.

But still, there you have it. Prickly Mrs TW is no more and no longer will the lovely aroma of singed linen arise from the little house of the hill. And with that thought I hope you have a good evening and sleep well. Tomorrow is another day, for most of us at least.Very HappyVery Happy

Re:
Fairy Nuff's Avatar It must have been that sort of morning, HO started off the day recovering the remains of a baby dolphin with the vet from the Scottish Agricultural College. Sad
Probably the baby of his favorite dolphin Kesslet , it went missing 3 weeks ago.
Hopefully tomorrow will begin on a happier note.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Aw, poor little HedgehogSad I would think though Fennie sadly she got run over perhaps late at night by a random late night car on the road even though you say it is not always busy.

Sleep well Fennie and thank you for posting the evening post.

Re:
Fairy Nuff's Avatar Yes Camilla, he went missing three weeks ago, disappeared overnight, we shall probably never know what happened unless the SAC find anything obvious in the post-mortem. Quite unusual to recover a baby they normally just sink.

On a happier note we now have two pairs of collared doves outside the kitchen and some crows have moved in across the road (I like crows).
