Cowart's Common Room
Bedtime Story

The Gruffalo has just been voted the favourite bedtime story to read to your children or grandchildren.
When the children were little, we loved:
1)Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy...wonderful rhymes eg Snitzel Von Crumm with the very low Tum
2)Dinosaur Roar..all about opposites, parents can give full vent to all sorts of funny voices
3) Something for James...what is making the bag rustle?
4) We're going on a Bear Hunt... swishy swashy!
And so many more....
What were your family's favourites?

Jane Hissey's books also went down a storm, Old Bear, Jolly Tall and friends, and even at 21, my son has his Jolly Tall toy sat on top of his book case, which contains very unchildlike tomes, such as 4 inches, by Rankin!
Then there was Harry Potter, which first hit the book stands when mine were 8 and 9 years old in 1997. They both lapped this up and could never wait for the next volume. Daughter also loved Philip Pullman, although she was a teen by the time she came to discover these alongside Mallory Blackman's books.

Recently I've been reading all of the Winnie the Poohs to them which have been very much enjoyed. Now we've moved on to The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark and other things involving vets and magical unicorns.

My granchildren like Hairy McClary (my favourite for reading) and the Gruffalo. My eldest grandaughter had a 'thing' about The Elves and the Shoemaker which I had to read so many times I was forced to 'lose' it.

My own favourites as a child were probably the Little Grey Rabbit books.
