Cowart's Common Room
Not a TV watcher...but...

being confined to the sofa at the moment I have watched some TV - not a lot really but never having seen the film 'Notting Hill' I sat and watched it last night - cursing the long pregnant paouses in the dialogue and the even longer adverts - but I got the gist of it and went 'ahhhh' at the end.
Tonight I watched Jo Brand in a different role as she followed the life of Vera Brittain through the horrors of the First World War. A very moving programme, beautifully presented. BBC series 'All the Small Things' ...I thought I would be off by 20 minutes - I watched it all! Could watch it all over again! Anyone with an insight to autism would be watching the portrayal of the eldest son with avid interest. What a breath of fresh air - a storyline - well at least three actually. Did anybody else watch it?

Westerwitch's Avatar Yes I did watch it - although was buzzing around a bit - but saw enough to make me want to sit and watch it properly next week.

I love Nottinghill and have seen it many times. Not seen the Joe Brand programme so will look out for this.

Camilla's Avatar I have seen Notting Hill and loved it, think that is the one with Hugh Grant.

I missed the Jo Brand programme, will try and see if I can see again on IPlayer, think there was a film on TV last year of actress who portrayed Vera Brittain. All Small Things I missed, will look out for this too.

Bayou's Avatar Hi SBS Cool!
Are you not mobile that you are watching TV? Yes, i saw All Small Things and will continue watching it. But no chance on Notting Hill as BBC1 is the only program we can enjoy here.

Nottinghill is a lovely film, I've watched it several times.
Got back in from choir practice just in time to see "All small things", loved it. I loved the bit when one of the Choiristers, "a parish council member", later discovered the "hoodie" was in fact the new curate! The choirs I used to sing with in Wales was a church choir so I must admit the programme so far has give me a few giggles. I'm looking forward to seeing it next week Very Happy

Inthemud's Avatar Yes, I saw All the small things. It was good to see the boy with autism portrayed in a realistic way. Interesting story lines, thought it was good. Hadn't sussed out the young "hoodie" as new curate, that was good! Will look forward to next week. I won't miss Misstresses quite so much as I thought as slot been filled by this!

CalicoKate's Avatar Hi SBS, seem to have missed why you are laid up but hope things improve and that you will be back up in no time.
Love, Love, LOVE Nottinghill and yes was frustrated by adverts - not by dialogue though.
AST's I saw too. Nearly turned off as the first 20 mins were a bit slow but then it picked up and I thoughly enjoyed it. Sarah L can sing can't she? Not sure about the 'floosey' though was she singing or was it dubbed? Confused
Didn't see JB but have seen her doing other 'serious' things and she does them well.

Why are you sofa bound? I've been away so missed the news. Hope you're okay. 'Letters of a Lost Generation' are the letters on which Vera Brittain based 'Testament of Youth' A wonderful read, but heartbreaking. What channel was it on?

Crystal Jigsaw's Avatar Yes, watched it too SBS. Loved it till the last minute and can't wait for next weeks.

The autism was very well acted wasn't it. That young guy did a remarkable job and ought to be commended. However, I was a bit disappointed as I didn't hear one mention of the word autism or autistic - did I miss something, nor did I hear a mention of special needs. Sarah Lancashire's character just mentioned that her son was different to other kids. Apologies if I missed the mention but still.

CJ xx

Milla's Avatar knew nothing about the Small Things, off to Google it now. Love Notting Hill and have seen it endlessly. Something about Julia Roberts is so gorgeous. That smile.
Where have you been, ATM??
