Cowart's Common Room
So here we are then

So home again, voluntarily jobless, and, due to some idiot problem with new software, will not even get my last month's salary. Don't ask, it will only spoil my calm.
I am not sure how I feel. I felt quite energised this morning as I packed up my London stuff in my daughter's flat, but a train journey which stopped summarily at Crewe and dragged on home by painfully slow connections has rather knocked that out of me. Time for a wander around the estate and half an hour in the greenhouse.
First day of the rest of my life and all that I suppose!
Waiting for me was a lovely card and some Sarah Raven sweetpea seeds from the utterly wonderful Zoe! Thank you Zoe, you are a star.

Re:
Elizabethm's Avatar Will be right at the top of my list of creative, mind expanding things to do Bodran, just as soon as I have worked through Ian's list: arrange visit from fencing contractor, arrange to have chimneys swept, arrange boiler service - you begin to get the drift...

ooohhh yesss your life is being mapped out. just watch he doesnt buy you a shop and sit you in it Rolling Eyes

Re:
Milla's Avatar sounds like the life of us stay at home layabouts, not a minute, ever, to do the stuff you thought you'd have hours to do ... anyway, tis done, and enjoy. (and please, give it a week, but get on that wretched phone, between boiler engineers and chimney sweeps) and wrangle your pay back!
And why does Zoe think to do the things that you wish you'd thought to do!!!

Re:
Salle de Bain's Avatar Don't know your circumstances ElizabethM, but I note that you say 'voluntarily' jobless.

That sounds like a great opportunity to do all the things you've ever wanted to do, but have never had the time due to work committments!!

Once you get used to the change...you'll never look back!
Gardens and greenhouses are so therapeutic too....

.....got those sweet peas in yet?

Re:
Exmoorjane's Avatar Because she's Zoe!!Very Happy But I know, I know....Embarassed

Yes, don't look back EM - surge forwards...... or rather, not surge, not quite yet....allow yourself at least a little time to stop and enjoy not having to pelt up and down from London.

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Wot no party! Maybe we could have one for you on PC. Toady, get the still out!

But somehow I don't expect you will be entirely jobless for long. Good luck with your new life.

Re:
Elizabethm's Avatar I would love to have a party. I will have to plot! And yes, have sown some of the sweetpeas and put the other half of the packet to soak overnight - testing the old wives' tale!

Re:
Mountainear's Avatar Best wishes on Day 1 of the rest of your life.

I don't know why it should remind me - or even if I can satisfactorily articulate the memory - of having dropped the boys off at school and playschool, of coming home and finding the silence in my kitchen really LOUD. The day stretched ahead of me seemed almost overwhelmingly full of potential - and mine.

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar It seemed that way but it was amazing how all that 'time' evaporated Rolling Eyes
Good luck in your new situation, Em. Make the most of every minute and enjoy!

Re:
LittleBrownDog's Avatar Can imagine it must be a strange feeling after doing what must have been a very full-on sort of job - adjusting will probably take a bit of time. But I'm sure new avenues and possibilities will open up before you as you go. And I think a party sounds like a VERY good idea Wink. When do we start? Laughing (I'm assuming I'm invited - if not, I'm pitching up anyway... Twisted EvilTwisted Evil)

Re:
Sumarell's Avatar Very best wishes Em. I'm sure you'll adapt very quickly to a wonderful new lifestyle.
(I made the same decision just over a year ago to everyone's surprise. Best thing I ever did - never been happier...or busier actually!)

Frances's Avatar Elizabethm, savor these transition days. I am sure that the paycheck situation will get sorted.

Meanwhile ... it's spring! And you can watch this beautiful season develop, day by day, as you find your new life developing.

Westerwitch's Avatar Wow what a great day to have the first day of the rest of your life . . . now tuck your vest in - even the self imposed jobless must keep their vests neatly tucked in.

Re:
Elizabethm's Avatar Of course you are invited LBD, along with the whole crew! I think tomorrow it will hit me when I don't have to do my usual 9am conference call from home. Pity it looks as though it will be rainy and cold but never mind, there will be lots of days.

Re:
Puffin's Avatar Enjoy your free time-it won't be for long and you will look back and wonder how you did all the things you have to do from day to day and held a job too,
Start toy day and just enjoy-

Re:
Pondside's Avatar If it's rainy and cold, put on the kettle, make yourself a nice cup of tea or coffee, take a cuddly afghan and snuggle on the couch with a book. Because you can.
Everything will wait for the sun.
