Cowart's Common Room
For Milla.

Didn't quite know where else to put this milla :

Signatures = stem stitch usually for a soft look that pleases me somehow. If very complex I use backstitch as it 'fits' the tiniest of signatures.

Applique = I use Bondaweb to help with fraying and to give the piece more body which makes it easier to sew. I then use a small zigzag on the machine to fix it to the backing fabric.

Was that what you wanted to know? Bit forgetful just now! Rolling EyesConfused

Milla's Avatar yes, exactly so, was wondering about bondaweb. I've got some but haven't yet used it for these endless curtains - have been using zigzag scissors and fraycheck. I do lots by hand as turning on the sewing machine, I get a bit in a mess sometimes if lots of tight turns and haven't managed the foot pedal well enough to ensure needle is still down at the turning point (ie so fabric can spin without affecting the thread length). off to google stem stitch, it's too far back in my memory.
many thanks young pips.

Westerwitch's Avatar Wow all sounds very impressive - lovely to know that there is so much going on in the sewing room . . . even if I have no idea what ArrowArrowArrowArrowArrow

Preseli Mags's Avatar It all sounds like a foreign language to me and I so wish that wasn't the case. *sighs, hopelessly* Sad

Exmoorjane's Avatar Code, I reckon. What it really means is, 'you free to come down the pub?'
'Yeah...see you there in ten...'

Milla's Avatar Jane, hush. you'll make us prick our fingers we're so desperately trying to use to thread needles with. Not the sewing room, WW dear, but from Pip's lovely blog. I asked a couple of questions.

Pipany's Avatar OOOoooh, the pub! How well I remember its smell and the sound of a long pint being long ago, but so dear to my heart.

Posted by: Pipany on 13th Mar 2009 at 02:58PM

Milla's Avatar yes yes, stem stitch. understood and understood. pubs, your memory of a pub, young Pip (!) will be smoke-drenched. They're nice now, you can see across the room. That sound is redolent, though, that pint pulling (even though I hate beer). Gosh, is it too early for a friday glass of wine, d'you think? not that that's going to help with my sewing Shocked

Pipany's Avatar I'll have one if you will. Don't even have to collect kids from school ...hooray! Definitely makes my sewing better Milla Laughing

Exmoorjane's Avatar It's the tablecloth, isn't it? I loved that idea and even fondly imagined our own, slightly more wine-stained that Pip's but still with signatures and memories. Then realised that my sewing sadly lacking so would look like mad bit of rag chewed by dogs.
It's Friday for heck's sake - soon be time for a glass. Off to the pub indeed tonight - J at disco (aaaghh) so sneaking off to test out someone supposedly good for food. Oh my piggy self.

Pipany's Avatar Envy, envy Jane. Have one (or two for me). Our cloth is quite nicely stained and adds to the general 'heirloom' feel I think. Maybe it's just my hopeless housekeeping skills that I am trying to excuse here!

Milla's Avatar ah, yes, Pip, that was the other question I asked which your slack old self hasn't answered - how do you keep your whites so white, love, or should I ask KittyB??

Posted by: Milla on 13th Mar 2009 at 03:57PM

Pipany's Avatar Er, yes I think Kitty your man for that. I use copious amounts of bleach and still the marks persist. there si a particularly lovely one of Isabella's chocolate paw print. I thought I might just sew over that for posterity.

Frances's Avatar I love reading all this sewing an embroidery info (and pub info, too) and so wish that I could have been sewing and embroidering today ... and could be at a pub now.

Vicarious living is good, but reality is better! xo
