Cowart's Common Room
Cowgirl: Thanks for asking about me!

Hi everyone - have just been finding life very hard work lately and haven't had time to be online much - when I have finished for the day I tend to collapse on the couch too tired to read even. Yesterday marked 3 months since Richie passed away, and it feels like yesterday and forever ago all at the same time. Things here are busy - B&B still pumping, farm work picking up with the change of season etc

We had a mini-cyclone come through on Thursday afternoon/night and on Friday morning I woke to flooding so had to leap out of bed and wade through waist deep water on the drive way to go and check the cows - then move them to safety, and then go and retrieve my electric fence tape (reel) and standards - worth hundreds - from along the rapidly rising river. Then in the afternoon I had to clear the fences and check the pump once the water had gone. Earlier in the week Dad & I spent an entire day at the pumphouse after I had found a broken ballcock arm in a trough - had to be the largest trough - and so had to bale out all the water - a chore in itself - but then once the arm was replaced the pump wouldn't cut in - so we had to uplift the entire thing (v heavy - and I ended up with it being dropped on my finger - nice purple nail now) and replace with our spare, and then return it to the workshop for overhauling (now done).

Yesterday I was walking to get the mail and I noticed a tree limb had become entangled in the stream around our water pipe and was acting as a sieve collecting a heavy load of weed and smelly debris - all of which was eventually going to bode ill to the water pipe so I had to get down into the stream and clear the lot - and to my disgust - I didn't even know we had them in NZ - I found a big leech on my leg afterward - yeeeeeeuch. Pulled it off and disinfected the site..... ugh ugh ugh.

Also during the week I made two batches of yummy damson jelly from fruit a friend gave me, and some chilli and tomato jam from my own cherry toms - they have done so well this year will certainly grow again next season, and of course with the rain comes the grass growth so mowing has been constant -every three or so days I do a bit - no longer try and get the whole lot done at once. The belt came off the mower again, but when friend Robbie came to help me put it on when Dad was in hospital, last time it did it, he showed me an easier way of "walking" the belt back on to the wheel rather than brute force, and happily I was able to do it by myself this time! Yay!

People (friends, acquaintances) ask me if I'm looking for a JOB..... erm, not currently......

Cheers, everyone xoxoxoxooxShockedShockedShocked

Re:
Frances's Avatar I just don't know, Samantha. Damson jelly sounds all right, but a leech! Oh no, oh no, oh no.

I just want a gigantic heap of luck and good news to head right over to Riverdale pronto.

Meanwhile, I send you lots of hugs, kisses, and ... for what the virtual version is worth, lots of support.

Re:
Pondside's Avatar Whew! After all that I was prepared to read that there'd been a sandstorm and Tsunami...but I think if there had been you'd have just rolled up your sleeves and sorted them out!
What a lot you've been through these three months. Like Woozle, I hope you can find a moment to yourself - hot bath, glossy magazine and a little peace.
