Cowart's Common Room

A Cautionary tale methinks!

Yesterday I took my lap-top adapter into a local computer store. It was a smart establishment...warm, shining chrome shelves, bright lights...minimalist style. I was greeted by a very smart and smiley young man sporting a name badge stating that he was a something-or-other consultant.

I showed him the lead....

Mmmm...says he after hearing a description of the problem...I'll just plug it in and see if I can diagnose the fault. After several minutes of head scratching...twiddling and grimacing he told me the bad news.

"Nope, I'm afraid this is beyond repair...and the only thing you can do is replace it". "We sell a very good version for 69-99".

I thanked him politely for his help and left.

A couple of doors up was another shop...so in I went. It was small, tatty, cold and very dark inside. Probably hadn't seen a duster for a while either! The assistant, a rather dishevelled young girl explained that the proprietor was out, and that she would get him to look at the adapter as soon as he came back. As I was leaving, she added "but I can see what's wrong with it anyway."

To cut a long story short...it was a small mis-alignment...that didn't even require her boss's expertise to diagnose. It took him precisely 20 seconds to fix the problem....no charge either!!

It saved me nearly 70 squiddlys...just by taking a few steps down the street to another shop!!!

All those sayings like 'don't judge a book by it's cover' and 'all that glitters is not gold' sprang to mind!

Back to the ironing now...been at it for two hours. My own fault...let it build up for weeks!!

Have a good weekend everyone...I'm off to the UK to see the grandson on Monday yippee!!!! Very Happy

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar Actually that is disgraceful - I would write to head office and complain about the so called shiny expert . . . although of course he will have been told to do what he did to sell.
