Cowart's Common Room
worst presents?

Following on from Sal's nightie what were your two worst presents and your two best presents this xmas?
My worst in order of worseness were......
1.anti sagging body cream from my mum...next year I'm expecting the mug for my teeth! For goodness sake which bit isn't it meant to be applied to? I think she just got taken in by the slogan"because you're worth it"
2.The brylcreem (?) from Auntie Gwen....every year we all get somebody else's present...well Elvis I got yours.Last year wasn't too bad, I got the 3 pairs of mens socks while hubby got auntie Nellie's present of 3 pretty hankies( we knew they were hers because they were embroidered with "nellie")The year before that I got pipe cleaners...now that one was a mystery because nobody has smoked a pipe in our family apart from my grandad who died 34 years ago. That year hubby got a pair of support stockings..very fetching!

The best?
1.Blogging for dummies from my hubby...no excuses now, i just have to read and assimilate the info , then I'm off!
2.A beautiful large china bowl full of 12 blue hyacinths, probably my favourite flower for scent..again from hubby...now didn't he do well this year.

So come on ,spill the beans, dish the dirt,
what was the best and what was the worst?

whoops! almost poetry there!

Re:
Snailbeachshepherdess's Avatar can't come near your howlers -
Worst was a silver necklace with blue flowers - ANYBODY that knows me knows I wear a silver cross and chain and point blank never wear anything but!
Best - the book Eve Green from youngest son.
Weirdest - toenail clippers from hubby - its HIM that cant cut his toenails. Rolling Eyes

Re:
Faith's Avatar I have to say the one from my step daughter was sweet - she has no money at the moment so wrote me an IOU offering to look after my dog for a day if I wanted to go out.

I didnt get a really worst one but the gloves from my MIL are HUGE - I don't know what size she thinks my hands are!

Re:
Elizabethm's Avatar Cant really answer this as havent quite finished yet - we still have children to come up here and presents to exchange!

I have loved my mamma mia dvd, my book "The Morville Hours" about the creation of a garden by Katherine Swift, loads of great books too from my kids and tulip bulbs. Pretty good so far.

Re:
Mountainear's Avatar No real howlers this year - mostly things I have subtly requested.

The Mamma Mia DVD was a gift too. We are going to have a 'Greek Night' - mousaka, grilled octopus, baklava and metaxa and the movie LaughingLaughing

Would love you all to join us - just not sure there will be room in our sitting room which will be the taverna for the night.

Re:
Pondside's Avatar No worst, not even any comical - the best were a digital photo frame and Mama Mia DVD.
I used to have a worst every year, when my MIL still bought gifts - there was the year I got a saugage maker (that was the year my sister's MIL gave her a silk purse and scarf) then there was the year of a sleeveless pulloever that looked like a giant doillie, and the year of the bat-wing sleeve dress.......trailed in everything! Those were the days - I'd put the gift on, tell The Great Dane to snap a photo for MIL and then off it came and into the Salvation Army bag..........mustn't forget the red patent leather knee-high lace-up hooker boots, or the gauze gypsy skirt with bells on the hem............

Re:
Irish Eyes's Avatar Over the moon with the heraldic shield [Mum's maiden & married names - one of which is my maiden name of course] from E.D., and the wildlife figures of an Owl, a Blue Tit hanging upside down from a tap and a Robin on a stump from Y.D, kitchenalia from His Eminence that I have been eyeing up for - well, since I took over this kitchen and s-i-l took the biscuit with a book she found in some obscure bookshop in the Midlands "Social Graces for the Christmas Table". Am wondering if I could use it to swipe her elbows off the socially graced Christmas table! Said book was written in 1915 by someone who's name has succumbed to the moths. The smell of it would flatten you and I have recycled it. It burnt beautifully, saved at least three logs, and she will have to believe me when she asks where it is in time to come when I truthfully tell her I do not know, because OH took out the ashes and I haven't a clue where he put them! Sisters in law!

RE
Camilla's Avatar Love all, I did receive a pack of coloured heavily scented body creams, and I have an allergic skin, so cannot use.

Re:
KittyB's Avatar The good - top from Boden, handcream from Liz Earle, book from my sister, Trixiesma - The Great North Road by Annabel Dore - and cash which I've already bought an oil painting with - I've had my eye on it for some time and it's beautiful hanging above me here, over the tatty old sofa in my kitchen.
The bad - dodgy frilly knickers from Ann Summers. Hmmm.
The ugly - Musto socks. But useful nonetheless.
A pretty good year all in all.
I have to admit to buying Trixiesma a Shewee. A sort of joke. Possibly her worst present?!

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar When we lived down South - there was a ghastly shirt that used to do the rounds and also a pair of Wallace and Gromit boxer shorts.

HS and I were both given the same CD's by the kids - who have now vowed to communicate re Xmas presents in future. Also both kids gave me a scarf - but they are bot brilliant and very different - plus I love scarves.

Best presents - pretty much everything HS and the kids have ever bought me!!!!!

Re:
Lily's Avatar 00000The good - theatre gift voucher from middle son, secateurs + holster from OH( much hinting to achieve). The funny- D-i-l gift wrapped the loo roll cover which was left in the time warp home she bought earlier this year. We'd laughed so much at it that she promised to give it to me for Christmas. Hand knitted and in the form of an avocado dog(?), matching the time warp bathroom- please don't be jealous.

Re:
The best, HUGE Emma Bridgewater Black toast jug, books, scarf and lots of lovely little things.
The worst, the ubiquitous scented candles, but chosen by the youngest son so can't say anything. The only scented candle I give house room to is a Jo Malone LBM, but as the youngest is only 16 I know his budget won't stretch that far.Neutral
