Cowart's Common Room
HELP!!

Right...I've got 14 people for lunch tomorrow and want to make a non-alcoholic hot mulled/punch type drink in a big pan.

I spent all last night searching books and web-sites....but does anyone have a nice recipe, that's tried and tested and not too complicated (I'm not good in the kitchen!!)

I'll put this in the food forum...but as time is running out I've posted it here too....sorry to clog the common room!!!!

Re:
Arosebyanyothername's Avatar I haven't actually tried these but there are from a book called "All You Need to Know About Drinks" circa 1972.

Sorry but they are both cold.

SPICE ISLAND PUNCH (for about 15 glasses (5 pints) mix together
1 and a half pints fresh orange juice, half a pint of canned pineapple juice, juice and pared rind of 1 lemon, half a level teaspoon each of grated nutmeg and mixed spice and 6 cloves.
Strain, chill well and add 2 pints of ginger beer. Put crushed ice into glasses before serving.

SOMERSET CUP -20 oz bottle of pure apple juice, add 11 and half fl.oz of ginger ale, 19 fl. oz orange juice, half a pint of fresh lemon juice, about 15 oz crushed pineapple and stir in a large bowl.
Chill and serve with fresh, unskinned apple wedges floating on the top. Add ice cubes. Makes about 4 and a half pints.

Re:
Arosebyanyothername's Avatar Hey! I've found a hot one.

Non-Alcoholic Recipes

Hot Buttered Pineapple Drink

1 (48 ounce) can pineapple juice
2/3 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 teaspoons brown sugar
4 (3-inch) sticks cinnamon

Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes. Remove cinnamon sticks and serve hot.

Makes 5 cups.

Re:
Preseli Mags's Avatar What about doing a mulled red grape juice instead of wine? Or mulled cranberry juice? I do a summer punch of orange and cranberry juice topped up with ginger beer which could be heated in a pan with spices to make a warm punch.

Re:
Angel's Avatar I was going to suggest same as Preseli Mags with a red grape juice (sainsbury's do a nice one in their chilled section). I have tasted something similar and it is bound to work with festive spices-cinnamon, orange, anise and cloves.Ginger would add to it too. Lovely...

Have a good time

Re:
Ivy's Avatar Elderberry punch:
One bottle of elderberry juice 1/2 a bottle of black currant juice,
one bottle of apple juice, 3 satchet of mulled wine spices (cloves, cinamon, anis seeds, cardamom, ginger and vanilla) Honey or sugar to your liking. Heat in a big pot and leave to simmer for 20 mins. (don't boil it will make the whole thing bitter and the vitamins will be lost)

Tea punch:

Press 20 oranges,5 grapefruit and two lemons brew about the double amount of tea (black or hibiscus) add mulled wine spices and leave on hob to simmer ( don't boil it!) for about 20 minutes add honey or sugar to your liking. If you are using un-waxed citrus fruit you can put the lemon peel into the pot (remove before serving Smile )
I am not sure both recipes will serve 14 people though. I have never treid the last recipe with ready made orange juice.
