Cowart's Common Room
Sam's Eulogy

Sam has very kindly sent us her Eulogy to Richard . . . This was meant to have been put up by Jane - but we knew she may be delayed - so Jane has asked me to put this up in her absence.

Perhaps we could read this through together at 9.30pm tonight- as the funeral starts for Sam and Richard in New Zealand - 10.30am their time . . . and then if we could all close our eyes and mentally hold hands with one another and surround Sam with our love.

“ Grief really is the price we pay for love ”

Richard was my world and his passing is going to leave a huge emptiness behind. He was one of life’s truly good people – he constantly saw positives, even when times became so difficult.

He lifted the spirits of everyone around him so effortlessly – his smile and dry sense of humour touched many. Those of you who worked with Richie will know how much he loved his role there. It’s been wonderful hearing how highly thought of he was, by his workmates and friends at Top Energy, all of whom have been such a great support during his illness, this year.

Richie faced his illness very bravely and with 100% determination – and despite two major operations, he remained in great heart. During his recent 6-week stay in hospital he continued to touch the hearts of those around him, with his own special mix of cheekiness and charm.

Above all, he loved his home. He loved being outside – in the garden – out on the farm – fixing a fence or planting trees. Most weekends you could find him labouring away out there. It was a true labour of love, there simply nowhere he would sooner be.

I wore this top this morning because it has the words “ I love you ” written all over it. Love really is all around us especially in such seemingly hopeless and devastating times of loss.

Richie and I were very different and it worked so well. His coming into my life brought healing, and he gave me a love that I had long dreamed about. He never stopped giving that love – unconditional love – throughout our ten years together. I felt it around me every minute of every day. I can still feel it, and I know I always will.

The word “ soul-mate “ is somewhat over-used these days. But that’s exactly what we are – and that, without doubt, hasn’t ended with his passing.

Look toward coffin

Godspeed, my love. We’ll be together again one day.

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Very moving. Very moving indeed. Why do the good ones always seem the first to go?

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar Oh Irish Eyes they really were and somehow you get the feeling they still are and always will be. What separates them now must seem insurmountable to us on this earth - but I suspect it is a mere blink of time in the spiritual world.

Phew - that was lovely. It's about 3.25pm here, so 9.35 in England and the service is just about to start down under. My sympathies to the whole family.
