Cowart's Common Room
Feeling really sorry for myself

Hi all I managed to catch a vile cold just a week and a bit before Christmas.
I am stranded now on the sofa, after returning from our weekend cottage. I could let my son do the driving with his newly acquired driving license and was more peaceful than I usually would have been.( "Darling did you see that stop sign"? )It is soo cold and even the hot water bottle that is burning my feet does not get me warm. Hubby went out to get some Chinese food for us I hope a hot and spicy soup will do the trick.
Sipping lemon juice with honey and hot water is obviously good for the water level but doesn't warm the ice-block that formed inside me. Actually it's not that cold outside and I even managed to take the dog for a walk in the sun covered in several layers of wool but the nose is running like a waterfall and I look like a distant relative of Rudolph the Reindeer. Luckily I finished most Christmas shopping and only have to get the food but it's so annoying to be knocked out at this time of the year and I still have to do all the wrapping.Crying or Very sad but it's nice to be looked afterSmile

Cait's Avatar Poor you Ivy. My daughter her husband and and two of my three grandchildren are laid low with flu - there are so many berludy bugs around.
You sound as if you need one of thiose hot toddies we were discussing - for recipes mentioned in the Common Room (see below).

Hope you feel better soon.

TIGGYWINKLE's Avatar It is such a terrible Winter for flu. I agree with Cait. I'd pour a good slosh of whiskey into your lemon drink. Hop you feel better soon. I think everyone is behind this year. I hope to write cards tonight, and do some Christmas shopping on Tuesday and Wednesday. Have the decorations up, but missed not having the whole family around, as it was always a big day here. Lost my glasses up a lane gathering greenery, and have to go to look for them. Brrr!

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar Oh poor Ivy I really do feel for you - nothing you can do really, but wait for the cold to go and try and make yourself as comfortable as possible in the meantime.

Hope you feel better soon it's so cold outside that only a hot bath does the trick I find.

Re:
Ivy's Avatar Thanks for your kind words. As I don't like alcohol (yes I know a very rare species and it's nothing to do with alcoholism or liver disease) I'll stick to tea, lemon and the purring kitten on my feet. Love that picture Blossom.

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar Keep warm if you can. Rest as much as possible. The rest is just waiting, with a large box of tissues to hand and one of the restorative drinks talked about below. I find that Johnson's Baby Cream is the best thing for the end of my nose when it gets sore!

Re:
Ivy's Avatar It certainly is but unfortunately I ran out of it and hubby is not going to London any more this year but I think the Weleda citrus cream is a worthy replacement.
