Cowart's Common Room
I CAN'T SLEEP CHAT POST

I had a lovely day, met up with my friend and drove out to the Coast and to The Norfolk Wildlife Trust Shop near Cley Marshes, then onto The Three Swallows for a spot of lunch. We then popped into the little Antiquarian Bookshop to buy some books, they had absolutely hundreds. Inside the shop you could sit in one of their gorgeous plump gingham covered armchairs while you browsed through some of the books. A lodger cat was inside the shop named Musty, she was really beautiful, I took a shine to her of course, bent down to stroke her and.... ouch, seriously sharpe claws, I soon made a dash for it.

If you can't sleep and there are others on line then have a natter here, we would love to have your company over a cuppa and a cookie or two.

Night Night, & Sweet Dreams.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Hello Irish Eyes,

Wonder if sticking a notice on kitchen wall will do it, but perhaps your family know you would like them and are going to make it a surprise for you, hope so.

Re:
Irish Eyes's Avatar I hope so Frances, or I may forget how to ice the christmas cake I made last Saturday! My first one, as my Mother always made mine and Mother in law made the plum pudding...so I will be attempting icing on Saturday next. Keep the fingers crossed I don't make a mess! How are you today?

Re:
Frances's Avatar Hello to you Camilla and Irish Eyes! I am so happy to see both of you here.

That book shop looks very tempting ... over here it is all most only Barnes and Noble or online Amazon these days. Did I ever mention that I did meet Clarissa the cook and gave her a cookbook for her bookshop? Well, I did.

Can you believe it, I have sent messages to both of you earlier today! It has been a crazy day off here, with my dashing about in stong rain, trying to get as much of my Christmas prep done as possible.

I have another opportunity to tidy up my list tomorrow. Think that the rain is due to stop by midday, and that will help me a lot. When will I find time to do the baking???

Re:
Camilla's Avatar I am well thanks Irish Eyes, no colds yet thankgoodness, I could not even eat my Christmas dinner last year, had the rotten flu virus.

I love the traditional fruit cake, and adore marzipan, my Mother used to make lovely ones too, and as for plum pudding, oh one of my favourites, love it. Will you be having it with cream? Best of luck with the icing, I am sure the cake icing will be fine, will you be decorating the cake with festive snowman?

Re:
Camilla's Avatar Hello Frances, thank you.

Oh how I would have loved to have met up with Clarissa, lucky you. I do believe she has a cookbook shop in central London, does she visit NYC often Frances.?

I had not checked my messages Frances, thankyou, will pop over later.

Raining here too yesterday Frances, in fact we have had a lot of rain lately, drove through the forge on way to outing and thought....heck, water seems a tad high.

Will you be baking cakes for Christmas Frances, I know you make those yummy cookies.

Re:
Frances's Avatar Camilla, I got to meet Clarissa when she was over here promoting a book about the countryside. Think that her bookshop is in the Borders area just edging Scotland.

Baking Cake ... don't think that will be possible, though I would to. I just hope to fit in the time to do some gingerbread, and some rolled out brown sugar cookies to be cut in stars and tree shapes, and sprinkled with red/or green sugars. When oh when will I find time for this?

The paperwhite bulbs I started earlier this week are responding ... think it is time to begin the next assortment. I like to have a staged arrival of those scented lovelies.

Re:
Camilla's Avatar I have sent message Frances, thank you. I used to love watching Two Fat Ladies on the TV years ago. I don't really support Clarissa's love of hunting shooting killing, but she comes across as a very interesting person and I like the way she gives calming advice for cooking. I learned recently that she was the very first woman in England to be accepted to the Bar at very young age but then decided to change her career and stem towards the culinery skills. I think she divides her time between London and Scotland.

My grandchildren adore Gingerbread Frances, I do too. Pleased to know those pretty paperwhite bulbs are responding, I do have a favourite in bulbs which are Hyacinths, although I prefer the very deep Blue variety.

Re:
Frances's Avatar Thank you for your message, Camilla.

I quite agree with you on the hunting topic.

And, looking at the clock, will now urge you to head on off for the land of nod. Look forward to seeing you again tomorrow evening.
