Cowart's Common Room
Festive Parsimony!

Well Christmas really is a non-starter here at the moment, as the builders are back. This time it's the stables, and it's very cold work out there (-6 degrees last Saturday).

Sneaked a day out from project managing to do a bit of shopping with my sister and friend. We saw these lovely natural looking trees with lights on the ends of the branches, being sold in a local craft shop. They were 60 euro each, so as we always do in such circumstances...we resented the cost... took notes and decided to make our own.

We drove the lanes later....a very frosty night.....and found a suitable branch on the side of the road. It was too big to get in the car, so my sister and friend hung out of the front and rear car window and held it as I drove the two miles home. We blocked the road with this huge thing, so everytime a car came, we had to stop quickly, jump out and carry it round to the verge side. Normally few cars are seen in our lane, but on this particular occasion we met six....there must have been a party somewhere...typical!

We eventually got it home, and after drying it out on the Aga, we spent the evening getting creative with silver duct tape and a set of the neighbour's discarded icicle lights. A glass of Bayley's or two along the way helped with the creativity! Our masterpiece is now in place outside the front door looking very majestic.....total cost 5 euro (for the duct tape!).

Next project is a huge ivy branch, torn down from the telegraph pole outside. I have sprayed it gold, and intend to hang UPL's gorgeous doves and camels from it....will post a picture when I've finished!
