Cowart's Common Room
Message from Sam

I have just come off the phone from Sam and promised I'd post this. She wanted to say a huge thank-you for all the post, emails and PMs she's had. They are a huge comfort and she said that, given she has little direct family, it's like being embraced by a big wider family - one of her own choice.
She is bringing Richie home and wants some time with her 'boy'.....away from the hospital and everyone. She is going to be writing his eulogy over the next few days - and trying to get everything sorted for the funeral. Rosemary will be playing the organ.
A few people have asked about flowers or donations. Donations if desired are to the Auckland Cancer Society - the people who funded the wonderful lodge Sam stayed in while Richie was in hospital. I am having trouble finding a website for them - so if anyone can provide a link that would be great.
You are all being a huge support to our cowgirl. Sam, being Sam, said she felt guilty that she seemed to be taking so much - and not giving back. What do we do with her?!

Angel's Avatar I don't know what to say Jane. That poor girl. I feel for her so much.
I think she is being amazing.
As for taking so much, and not giving back...bless her...what is she like indeed...She would be there for any of us if it was someone else this had happened to.

You tell her we are here to carry her as long as she needs it....unconditional love and support.

Westerwitch's Avatar Bless her - even in her grief she is still thinking of others.

Toady's Avatar I would like to give something. Would it be an idea to channel money through a paypal account like we did with our 'subscriptions' Please advise Headmistress.

Exmoorjane's Avatar Toady, it's very weird - you keep saying what I'm thinking! I did wonder about this as would be lovely to join up for a Purplecoo response (for those who want to) but couldn't figure out how the logistics would work.

Ivy's Avatar I am glad you could talk to her Jane. I hope she will have friends to support her there and then but talking to you on the phone certainly was more personal than just an e-mail. Glad she feels embraced by us and typical cowgirl that she is worrying about the attention....

Westerwitch's Avatar Hi Toady - yes I, or someone else could co-ordinate the money if that is what people would like to do - I could put the money through the Purplecoo account and my paypal - or we could set up a Purplecoo Paypal perhaps and pay money into the cancer charity from there - or we could all make individual donations - what would you all like to do?

Posted by: Westerwitch on 8th Dec 2008 at 12:28PM

Exmoorjane's Avatar Personally I think it would be lovely to send it from Purplecoo....and if you wouldn't mind putting it through your paypal, WW, that would surely be easiest? Let's see what everyone else thinks.

Frances's Avatar Jane,

Thank you for passing along Sam's message, which sounds totally like the Sam we know. She is still so mindful of others.

I like the idea of a Purplecoo combined donation to benefit the place that gave such caring attention to both Sam and Richie.

Cait's Avatar Yes I would like to contribute as part of Purplecoo.

Sam is an inspiration by the way.

LittleBrownDog's Avatar Have just logged on after the weekend to discover this dreadful news. I'm so very sorry.

Withy Brook's Avatar I would like to join a coo donation. Your account does sound the most practical, if you don't mind, WW. It has the advantage that it can be arranged quickly as I think we would like to do it asp while we are feeling so low.
Instructions in words of one syllable please.

Camilla's Avatar Thankyou Jane for passing along Sam's message to us.

I too would like to contribute as part of Purplecoo.
