Cowart's Common Room

It is just so dark. Dark by 4 today and all the hens tucked away and on their perch. Pitch dark now. The old lady who lived on the other side of the valley has moved out and now there is no friendly light on the far away hill. I feel as though someone has dropped a bit velvet curtain on my head and I want to fight my way out.
Better put the kettle on and another log on the fire.

Exmoorjane's Avatar I used to love that velvety dark when we were at the farm - sort of miss it now. But can imagine the loss of something one became used to and fond of.......
I hate these dark afternoons and dark mornings too......but hey, once we hit the solstice the light will start to return, bit by bit.
Grumpy here though as forgot to get the wood in before the rain came....and now it's chucking it down.
Are you snowy up there EM?

Elizabethm's Avatar A bit of snow yesterday but all gone today under rain. Got quite wet going out for more logs but need to go out again to Welsh tonight. I must go as I get left behind if I dont (I only do one session a week and the others do two) but am seriously tempted by the fire and the light inside!
Just a small nip of brandy thanks ww, not that small!

Exmoorjane's Avatar No! Now you've got me thinking about brandy. Brandy mac for me I think.... You're a bad influence. Very Happy

Snuggle up everyone. Feeling really sorry for myself here. I've been in bed for much of the last two days with a stinking cold AND we'd run out of whisky! Now I have a bottle of the latter and a nice roaring fire, so I'm beginning to feel better. ATCHOO! (Bless me).

Elizabethm's Avatar Oh that fire is wonderful! feeling better already.

Fennie's Avatar Shall I light the fire? Feel sorely tempted. But it smokes and the cold air wafts down the chimney and then there's the ash to clear out. But we haven't run out of whisky! And the logs are really dry. Stephen Potter - The Gamesmanship man - had the whim of spotting an isolated light from a train and saying to the occupants of the carriage - I see Tom Evan's is in. And when they looked baffled: 'Head Keeper on the Sandringham estate in the old days' - these days he might say 'used to drum for Queen when Roger Taylor was indisposed' Or whatever.

Angel's Avatar It is horrible when it is dark. Not that 'Idle Jack' needs an excuse, but I have to go down and collect him from bus stop because it is now too dark for him to walk up the country lane at night.

And we are out of wood!! Have used so much over last few days. We're hoping for a delivery on Saturday. So nice to see that can't beat it.

Mountainear's Avatar Have just come back from the Village Hall - not really, truthfully wanting to venture out on this night which is damp and drear, here too.

Flicks in the Sticks. 'Mama Mia' - fantastic - just what the doctor ordered - should be on the NHS on big screens everywhere. Pure unadulterated FUN. Very Happy. pure escapism with sunshine and a Greek island. Ask SBS she was there too.

Camilla's Avatar Wish the days were still lighter in the evenings Elizabeth, snuggle up by warmth of the fire with that good book and glass of something to ease the cold, sounds very good to me.
