Cowart's Common Room
Surviving

As it is so quiet in the Common Room I thought I would put this here as well.

Imagine that there has been a calamity and 90% of the World's population is dead. But you have survived. What would you do?

Re:
Mountainear's Avatar In reality - be afraid. Be very afraid. It would be good to think that society would all pull together to make things work but I suspect greed and self interest would take over and the survivors would be the human rats of this world.

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar I wonder if greed and self interest would become the norm, or if that is the way we see the human race. Certainly that is how the programme Survivors is portraying what happens. And it is what I believe would happen - people would not band together and help each other - certainly not short term - it would be every man for himself. perhaps things would change when the shops ran out. But probably not - man loves to exploit his fellow man.

Re:
Preseli Mags's Avatar If it happened right NOW I would break into Thorntons and eat all the Viennese Truffles. Then (and only then) would I stop and think of what would be the "right" thing to do! WinkRolling Eyes

Re:
Fennie's Avatar I know it's November and there's a recession and Jane wrote recently of being half-way through her life and Chi-Chi has sadly died and Rosie's dog is not at all well - but can't we think positively? VAT is being cut, Barack Obama has been elected. Christmas is coming. Snow will be on the hills, Mootia (and my Younger Daughter) will soon be producing, Purple Coo will be having its annual extravaganza of parties and cake-baking, ChrisH will soon have a new book published. Pluto has just done something or other that LBD seems to think heralds a new beginning. Ve haf vays of making you cheer up!

Elizabethm's Avatar I would stay right here and keep gardening!

Re:
Withy Brook's Avatar Keep gardening yes. But it would be terribly cold here with no electricity or oil. And what to cook on? Become vegetarian - I'm old enough for the lack of protein not to matter as much as for you younger ones.

Tattie Weasle's Avatar Good lord! There would be so much to do - huge barracades to be built around the farm, pertrol to be syphoned, trying to find my gun - heck surely it would just be Mad Max all over again??? On the other hand off to Bury St Edmunds and raid Thorntons - what a good idea!!!! Heck I think I'll do it anyway but I promise I will use my purse rather than my gunVery Happy
