Cowart's Common Room

I have posted about Chi-Chi several times I think during this year but I'm afraid this could well be the last. She passed away last night as she lay in her stable. She was comfortable and warm. We are of course very upset but I'm also very shaky as I haven't yet told Amy. She was Amy's pony and I really don't know how Amy is going to deal with this. We've been through lambs passing away but I think this might be different.

I just wondered if you could send me (and the farmer as he's terribly upset) some of your wonderful Purple Coo vibes to enable the process of telling Amy a little bit easier than I feel it will be at the moment.

I have blogged about Chi-Chi today too - sorry for announcing it here.

Many thanks,
CJ xx

Blossomcottage's Avatar Oh CJ I am so sorry to hear the news, I know just what it is like to lose a pony and my heart goes out to you and Amy. I am just so glad you did not have to make the decision for her and she went to the land of pony angels on her own x

CalicoKate's Avatar Big Purple hugs and thoughts winging their way to you.
Haven't 'met' Chi-chi as I'm just a newbie but anyones beloved pet/animal dying is upsetting and distressing.

So sorry to hear about your pony, it seems a lot of our pets have decided to leave us this month. In my experience, children are more resiliant to this kind of loss than we give them credit for. Vibes and thoughts with you.

Crystal Jigsaw's Avatar Thank you for your kind words. We are now waiting for her to be collected. I know crying won't bring her back but it's hard not to when we loved her so much.

Toady's Avatar Just have a b****y good howl. If Amy sees you're upset she'll know that it's OK to grieve. When we lost our first pet when L was small we all had a group weep and felt better for it.

Hugs to you and yours, CJ

Westerwitch's Avatar So very very sorry Crystal - thinking of you all. Please do not be sorry about posting here.

Big Hugs to you and Amy and the Farmer.

I find it very comforting that she died peacefully in her warm and comfortable stable and hope you do too.

I think having a good howl is brilliant advice and a good way of letting Amy know it is ok to grieve . . . the opposite - stiff upper lip is very destructive long term.

Faith's Avatar That's very sad news Crystal, and I can imagine how you and the farmer feel. It's a terrible loss. You will be able to help Amy adjust by talking about Chi-Chi and the good times, and maybe putting a photo in a frame or planting a tree, something like that. Purple hugs from me.

Ivy's Avatar O Crystal I know how it is to tell a little girl her beloved Pony went over the rainbow bridge. It is sooooo upsetting. Hope you find the right words to tell Amy which might be even more difficult. I found a sob together was good therapy for mother and daughter, but then again it might be different with Amy? Anyway be honest, tell her ChiChi's spirit is now released from an increasingly ill body and just give her even more hugs than you do anyway.
Big purple hug to you and the farmer

Withy Brook's Avatar So sorry, CJ. You have good advice here and I definitely endorse the communal weep. I have no idea how Amy will react, but we all have to learn about loss and bereavement in our lives and this is a chance to let her know that weeping is a great release. She may surprise you by picking up quickly - I hope so.
Masses of purple hugs and vibes to you all.
