Cowart's Common Room
What’s in your road?!

For the past few months I have had 2 detectives camped in Christopher’s bedroom (when he’s not been home) watching the flats opposite me. The flats are fairly new so are quite posh. The detectives of course couldn’t tell me what they were looking out for which has been very frustrating for me! And my neighbours have been thinking all sorts about me as they have seen these 2 good looking young men coming and going as I couldn’t tell them!!

Until today.

After gathering enough evidence from watching the flats they finally swooped in. All very dramatic to watch from Cs bedroom! And I got a phone call to say arrests had been made - so its now public knowledge and they wouldn’t be bothering me anymore and thanking me for all the cups of tea!
Apparently there was a brothel in 5 of the flats! Still trying to get my head round that! Just goes to show you don’t always know what is going on in your own road!

Withy Brook's Avatar What an excitement, Casdok! Well worth the wait for the police to get the arrests. Hope your neighbours now know what the good-looking young men were doing. Laughing

Toady's Avatar Can't you keep them for the next party? Mind you Blossom would nab them first!

Elizabethd's Avatar This sounds like the opening to a book! What excitement!

how exciting! When i lived in stoke newington there was a house of ill repute opposite me. mmy mum used to love peering through the venetian blinds at all hours of the night and would report all the comings and goings to me at breakfast the next day. I think she was jealous...

Gossip grapevine being what it is, you will probably learn that you've been running the brothel because handsome men have been spotted coming and going Very Happy

Ivy's Avatar Did you have to let them in or did they politely ask if it was possible? Just imagine what would have happened if C would have been on holiday....
@ themill you took the words out of my mouthVery Happy
ska nice to see you have not seen you online for ages.

SallysChateau's Avatar I was just thinking the same as Ivy, when you went out did you leave them to it ? rather a strain having them in your house all that time, so what is the general consensus on brothels ? legalize or bust them ?

Posted by: SallysChateau on 24th Nov 2008 at 05:54PM

When they first came to me to ask if they could use my house i did explain about C and that they couldnt be here when he was home.
And no i never left them here on their own, they told me i could but it didnt feel right. They gave me notice each time they came so i could rearrange my life!

CalicoKate's Avatar Wow like something off t'telly!
Back to boring old same old now I suppose. Bet you won't look at those flats in the same way again. Will they be sold and will you tell the new owners?

It was exciting to begin with until I realised how boring surveillance work is. But exciting at the end watching the raid. But also quite nerve wracking at times in case the people in the flats worked out what was going on at mine and would get me somehow. So boring is good!
I don’t know what will happen to the flats now?

Frances's Avatar Casdok, I would want to know just who owned those flats!

We had a similar situation on my street. A beautiful brownstone house was shut down as a brothel. Our New York City is a very keep-yourself-to-yourself sort of town, and we don't usually get too involved in what's going on, unless it harms us.

I had passed by the brownstone many times and seen some very discrete entrances and exits, and thought to myself, ... yes, might be that the common element was sex.

Anyhow, the business was closed down, and I think that the building was sold. I am not sure even now if some of the other residential tenants still are in the building. We just keep our anonymity.

Glad that no harm came to you! xo

i'm in the 'legalise them' camp. The WI have had a campaign (but not our branch sadly) did anyone see Stephen Fry last week? Really interesting - you could catch it on bbci player

Westerwitch's Avatar Westerwitch's Avatar I am in the legalise camp as well - especially 'houses' that are well run and where it is 'safe' for both working girl and client. It is the oldest profession in the world - it isn't going to go away and it shouldn't so time we stopped making consensual sex a crime. . . but the important word here is consensual.

Westerwitch's Avatar So how many cups of tea did you make your handsome detectives Casdok? Laughing

Posted by: Westerwitch on 25th Nov 2008 at 02:56PM

Too many! Glad to get my house back!
I also think it should be legalised, and saw the Stephen Fry show where he was shown round a very well kept brothel.

Inthemud's Avatar Crikey Casdok, didn't realise they were still there in C's room for so long!! Glad they've made arrests! How very exciting!
But all that for a Brothel??? I for the legalise them view.
