Cowart's Common Room
First Night

Last night was the first performance of 'Lettice and Lovage' by our amateur drama group. It went well - unusually so for a first night although many lines were missed out but not enough to wreck the plot or destroy cues. The audience was respectable in numbers and appreciative.
For those who don't know the play written by Peter Shaffer, it is about a tour guide who embellishes her description of the Tudor house she is being paid to show visitors around because it is dull - 'nothing ever happened there'. She gets increasingly dramatic in her description until she is found out and fired. She forms an unlikely friendship with her ex-boss with further dramatic results.
The play is on in Cowbridge, South Glamorgan until the end of the week.

Re:
Fennie's Avatar Oh yes, do come and see it (7.30pm, Market Theatre, pm either of us for directions). I am sure between us Rosie and I could even manage to put itinerant Purple Coo-ers up. Aren't Rosie's costumes great? Now, could we persuade her to design a PC uniform?

Re:
LittleBrownDog's Avatar Yes - I was going to say, doesn't that sound like Fennie's production?

Beautiful costumes indeed. And, yes, yes to purple robes made by Rosie. (mind you, might not quite be compatible with all the mud round these parts... Confused)

And who is the delectable creature wearing fabulous costumes? Anyone we know?

Re:
Fennie's Avatar You can never really be sure can you? I mean, who has joined. But it's not me. Ruthie is just as delectable and twice as funny.

Westerwitch's Avatar Oh Fennie and Rosie - I would so love to be there - but we are learning how to etch this weekend - that is ETCH, nit itch.

Re:
Forgot to say, I love theatre costumes. My favourite ever was a most fabulous red dress I got to wear, hired from the RSC, as worn by Sylvestre La Touzel playing the same role, when I played Lady Percy in Henry IV Pt I.
Got to snog the most delectable Hotspur Embarassed

Fennie's Avatar Ah ATM! I didn't know you were a fellow Thesp! We'll have you in Cads yet.

Re:
Frances's Avatar Love the photos, and loved seeing that play with Maggie Smith and Margaret Tyzack (sure I spelled her name wrong) quite a while back.

Best wishes on having appreciative audiences!

Pondside's Avatar That looks like a lot of fun! Would love to see your costumes and Fennie on stage!

Re:
Arosebyanyothername's Avatar You were lucky, Frances, to see Maggie Smith in the title role. I have seen the play performed twice by professionals but not, alas, with Maggie Smith. I am sure you know that the play was originally written for her.
Anyway, it has been fun to do if rather a roller-coaster!
