Cowart's Common Room

A lovely relaxing day, my fourteen year old Granddaughter was supposed to come and spend the weekend with us and I was so looking forward to seeing her, she rang this morning to say......"Grandma, I have this awful cold and I am in bed". Ah, poor darling, I hope she feels better soon. She ended the conversation by saying "love you lots Grandma", I could have wept.

It is raining absolute buckets as I type and the wind has got hold too. I am off to church later this morning for Rememberance Sunday. I shall say my prayers in memory of those brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for us during the two Wars.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not worry them, nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Fourth Stanza of 'For the Fallen' by Laurence Binyon (1869-1943)

If you can't sleep and there are others on line then have a natter here.

Night Night.

Frances's Avatar Camilla, those pictures of beautiful poppies are so well chosen.

Sorry that your grand daughter is not well, but just think what fun you all will have when she's better.

I will return to work tomorrow, which seems a poor way to commemorate Remembrance Sunday. However, over here, Verterans Day as we call it, is a day that really does not get the attention that it deserves.

I think of all the military folks who are now serving, and facing danger daily, and just wonder what they make of those of us back home having Holiday Coat Sales, etc. Not very sensitive, is it.

On Nov. 11, I always wear one of the poppies from the collection I have brought back from past trips to the UK. Often I have to explain what that little red flower is. Shocking, but that is why I wear it, so I might have the opportunity to do the explanation.

Camilla's Avatar Frances - thank you.

Apparantly Granddaughter says there is lots of colds and flu's at school, think they should be home to recover.

Work for you has come round pretty quick Frances, but I know that shoppers and staff will be pleased to see you back, to see your cheerful face.

Many families will be worrying about their loved ones serving in the Wars, I for one would be out of my mind with worry. In Afghanistan is just seems a never ending war, even if one is an ordinary citizen too. Will Brown and Obama have talks do you think and pull soldiers out to bring them back home, I pray that there will be a Peace one day.

I shall be wearing my Poppy Frances too in mark of respect, and the neighbour who is 90 and who will be wearing his medals I will be driving him to church, he lost his father in the first world war when he was only 6 months of age.

Frances's Avatar Hello Camilla, hoping that you will soon be asleep, but glad to have perhaps caught you still awake. I have been over at the "Company" website, looking through weeks of e-mails, and trying to stay calm. There is much to return to! All that shop stuff really does pale in comparison to the big issues facing our newly elected president and your present pm.

I really do hope that their wisdom will find a way to sort out matters that have been challenging to past leaders. Let's hope that they will work together, and together with lots of others, too.

Best regards to your 90 year old neighbor.

Camilla's Avatar Hello Frances, I shall be hopping into bed soon, eyes are slowly closing. I must catch up on all others blogs tomorrow, I am way behind.

My son checked his emails at business when he was staying with us last week, quite a busy time too with the Christmas arriving, so hopefully there is many who still wish to purchase books from publishing company even though there is a financial crisis.

Let us hope that our two leaders sort out all those policies and work well together.

Thank you for wishes for neighbour, a retired civil servant in London who worked for a company that was hush hush, and that certain issues could not be talked about.

Night Night Frances, sweet dreams to you. I shall look forward to seeing you tomorrow and to hear how your day faired.

Westerwitch's Avatar Oh I do hope your granddaughter gets better quickly and you are able to see her soon.

Here's to a safer, calmer world . . . would that man were not so warlike.

Camilla's Avatar Thank you Westerwitch.

Would'nt it be wonderful if there was no more Wars, no logic in it at all, Peace is the only answer.
