Cowart's Common Room
Lovely Garden

Rather topical pictures I thought. Have blogged about this...but I thought you might like to see some other pictures of this garden which was designed to commemorate Remembrance.

Re:
TIGGYWINKLE's Avatar I love this type of garden Salle. When we lived in Chester, and I was commuting backwards and forwards between the 2 homes, I used to pack my sandwich, and drink, and mosey up to the walled rose garden at the Cathedral to sit in peace and read, with the soothing water coming from the water feature. Where are those days of idle leisure and pleaure gone? Another such garden I loved, is at Magnolia Mansions in Charlestown,South Carolina. It is a Biblical Garden, with all the plants and trees mentioned in the bible growing there. I remember taking some lovely photos, before digital cameras, and a red squirrel peeing on my head.
There is a lovely German Memorial Graveyard in Glencree, about 20 mins from here. It commerates German soldiers shot down over Ireland during the war. It is small, cut out of an outcrop. The headstones are granite, and the graves covered in heather. There is a little altar, and a fine example of a Celtic Cross. There is a babbling brook to one side, and it is so peaceful. The heather and granite make a lovely display in September.
I am looking forward to watching the Memorial Servies on TV. The English excell at this sort of occasion of pomp and ceremony. I can never understand war. It is so senseless for everyone.

Re:
Frances's Avatar SDB, the pictures are beautiful, and somehow I really do like having a beautiful garden remembering those who are no longer with us. There are so many ways to remember. I think that countries with longer recorded histories than mine are perhaps better at finding ways to honor the departed.
