Cowart's Common Room
Painting!

Uploaded Image

Very frosty here....took this on the way back down from feeding the chickens this morning.

Painting the kitchen today....dirty yellow....that's the name I've given it. No-one else likes it....only me!

Have just wasted 10 nostalgic minutes examining the different coloured blobs of paint on my decorating clothes. I've worn the same shirt when painting for at least 25 years....it's a history book of colour. I found lilac from my daughter's nursery walls (she's 21 now!), pink from deB's 80's London Flat when I was trying to jazz up his awful batchelor pad. Used to catch the Penzance to Paddington train up at the weekends, carrying a bag full of brushes, rollers and dustsheets!! Then there's bright blue....I used that a lot in Cornwall on the doors and gates of my first cottage.....so evocative of the beautiful Cornish seas....and lovely against whitewashed walls.

Green on the sleeves reminds me of the walls of my daughter's bedroom in our second home on Bodmin Moor. She suddenly decided at age 8, and with friends coming for a sleepover, that I had to paint over everything pink before they arrived, in order to preserve her street cred! I had to hide all the Barbies that weekend too....end of an era!

Bright fuchsia pink paint on the cuffs are from the day (and I can only blame hormones for this), when I dashed outside to paint my gate posts with it! It caused a village conference at the end of my drive. They still mention it now when I go back....!!! I did paint over them the next day with a nice National Trust green/blue to the relief of many!

Aaaagh memories.....the older I get the more sentimental I become. I will never throw this old plum coloured Ben Sherman away (yes I know that shows my age....but they did look good with tank tops at the time...especially fuchsia pink ones!).

Cait's Avatar This was lovely to read, have you got a blog page yet?

Re:
Cait's Avatar PS The walls resemble the colour of your photo actually, which is gorgeous, reminds me of here.

Re:
Salle de Bain's Avatar Crikey Cait..you're absolutely right...I didn't notice that! I shall pretend that I did it deliberately, so that everyone will think I am very artisticLaughing

Still can't work the blog thingy...otherwise I would do it.

Re:
Westerwitch's Avatar You write very well and I would love to see a picture of your memory shirt. I also love the picture - very evocative of Autumn.

It is a shame that this post will vanish off the page - we really need to get you sorted out blog wise . . . perhaps give me a ring and see what we can do.

Re:
Exmoorjane's Avatar I have many shades of yellow on my wall at the moment, trying them out - and the one I really like is very much a dirty yellow. What is the actual name of the paint? And where from? Eyes will roll but (following my red phase) I'm now hunting for my perfect yellow.
