Cowart's Common Room
Hen Pheasant

Today, I was cutting dead out of a shrub when I suddenly became aware of a beady eye looking at me, only a few inches away. It was hen pheasant sitting very tight on her nest. She never moved. Naturally I moved away at once and went for my camera. When I took the picture, I don't think she was aware of me, as her eye is not visible.
I am concerned that the feral cats may get her before she can hatch her chicks and the chances of their survival, if they hatch, are slim.
I will keep you posted on this.

Re:
Suffolkmum's Avatar We have had a pheasant nesting in our small garden for the last 2 years - all have hatched successfully - and we have a cat! We had a duck nesting just by our fence these last few weeks, 5 very cute little ducklings just hatched yesterday and swam off down the stream. Let us know how your 'Mum' gets on.

Re:
Faith's Avatar Oh Withy, I hope she does manage to bring up her chicks safely. We get a cock pheasant on the bird table practically every day, but rarely see a hen in the garden.

Re:
Cowgirl's Avatar My best wishes to Lady Pheasant and her future brood. Have seen a Man and his three wives (pheasants!) strolling through our Olive grove the past three days or so.... love pheasants.
