Cowart's Common Room
Quick Feng Shui lesson (particularly for UPL and Faith - and with apologies to Jane!)

Feng Shui is all about creating balance and energy-flow in your home in order to optimise the various areas of your life, such as health, wealth, career and knowledge, etc. Taken to extremes, it can be very complicated, requiring special compasses and learned Chinese scholars who will tell you to do things like move your front door to the other side of your house or excavate a swimming pool in the northwest corner of your garden. On a simple level, you need to to divide a plan of your home into eight segments, and if you stand at your front door looking in, your Money corner will be in the far left-hand corner. To attract money into your life, this corner needs to be super clean and tidy, so the money-bringing energy can flow easily around. In particular, you need to be careful not to have lots of clutter/old files, etc on the floor, as this will drain your money energy. Crystals - particularly Citrine crystals - placed here are thought to help you accumulate and hang on to your wealth. Interestingly, I note that the colour connected with the Wealth corner is Purple, which should give us all a bit of a head start.

This is obviously an extremely truncated summary - if you'd like to find out more, I heartily recommend you dip into ExmoorJane's excellent book Spirit of the Home, which explains things far better than I could hope to.

Thanks for info. My money has been blocked by telephone directories and address books. Must remedy.

Fennie's Avatar Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Well, I can see why I am not wealthy! I don't think any of my corners are respectable but that is the worst one. It does, however, and not many people know this, have a trapdoor beneath it.

Is there any hope for me?

Milla's Avatar Is this really for real??? I have tremendous doubts, because so much is so unchangeable. OK, we COULD move our telly out of our cash corner, but, er that's where the aerial point is, and if we move it, it ends up in the fireplace, or blocking the double doors. And just because I FINALLY shift my bits and pick up, yup, endless files from the floor, will I suddenly find loot flooding in? And when we get finally sorted, then in barges F9 sending the whole house rocking to its foundations anyway so us and square one are suddenly reacquainted!!
Yours in deep scepticism, Mrs Horrid.

LittleBrownDog's Avatar Dear Mrs Horrid

I am afraid you will have to move house - there's nothing else for it. Preferably to special Zen-designed house with pagoda-style turret and large swimming pool immediately in front of the front door.

And that'll be 200 for the additional advice (see - my Money corner is working already!)

Milla's Avatar ho ho Mrs Feng Shui Expert, am in deep envy of your money corner and tempted by the swimming pool. Please don't say I'm falling for all of this...

Westerwitch's Avatar Eeeek have just realised that I have the JRT's bed in my money corner and I can't move my money thingy downstairs because then it will be right over the filing cabinet in my office . . . .

Posted by: Westerwitch on 28th Apr 2008 at 12:00PM

Westerwitch's Avatar Oh no now I am confused - I had a friend who did Feng Shui and she said my money corner was North East, but if I stand by my front door looking in then it will end up South East . . .Crying or Very sad

ChrisH's Avatar What bothers me about it is how come there are so many Chinese peasants?

Posted by: ChrisH on 28th Apr 2008 at 12:03PM

In July of last year the lovely EJ visited chez nous and pointed out that our wealth corner is, in fact, missing. She suggested we put a large plant in the back yard to square off the missing space and, do you know, things have been looking up.............BlinkSurprisedBlink

LittleBrownDog's Avatar I think Jane is going to have to come and visit each and every one of us individually to do the dusting and feng-shui us all to life of fame and fortune. Smile

Milla - you might just get away with staying put providing you paint the entire house and all its inhabitants purple.

Milla's Avatar I AM NOT MOVING EVER!!!! nearly killed me last time. When EJ did come here, I think she was so appalled by the previous owner's idea of decor (and that we had moved from rather nice house - wrong area - to dubious house - right area) that she was a little overwhelmed. I'll whistle her up the M5 on the pretext of a Girls' Weekend and put her to work pronto. I fear the money corner is the least of her problems.

Milla's Avatar yes, don't start bringing east and west into it, let alone sub-divisions of same. Far too confusing.

Westerwitch's Avatar Eeeeeek now getting my East and Wests and Rights and lefts muddled up and I still have tonight's lesson to prepare . . . .sigh

Exmoorjane's Avatar Oooooh, lovely......I adore a good feng shui(ite) debate. And bless you, LBD for the book plug! Forget the direction nonsense - nobody has ever made any sense of that. I too was DEEPLY suspicious of the whole thing and laughed out loud at the idea that rearranging the furniture could bring good luck or dosh....but - talked to a chap in New York about it all (this was donkeys years ago) and explained my house layout and we had the same problem as ATM. So I did the same thing - squared off the area with a large healthy plant in a girt big heavy pot. Thought it would make a good last linefor the feature I was writing ('and, did it do any good? did it heck?' or words to that effect). However, maybe it was coincidence but I got offered a job out of the blue for five times the salary I was on (yup, five times).
Although it sounds mad it does seem to work - have seen it happen time after time.
This house is a nightmare as we have loos in our wealth corners (and, guess what, lousy finances).
btw, if anyone needs help with their clutter I have a brand new copy of The Clutter Clinic sitting on my desk - will happily swap it for a good novel or something that smells nice.....
