Cowart's Common Room
Procrastination

Uploaded Image
I should be sitting at the desk, dressed and organized, pencil sharpened and working happily at my taxes. But noooooo - here I sit at the kitchen counter in my housecoat, poking around the site and trying to ignore the big pile of receipts and calendar pages that The Great Dane has set out for me. I hate tax time - and of course the weather is going to be warm and sunny today!!!
I just know that this woman would never be doing her taxes at the last minute - and there's a hot meal in the oven of her sparkling kitchen. Come to think of it, she just looks altogether too cheery. Would someone invite her on Fern's hike and push her over the edge?.......with my tax files, please.

Blossomcottage's Avatar Thought you might like this little poem Pondside, mind you I do wonder what the writer put off to write this !!!

Procrastination

by Kit McCallum

Yesterday, I said I would
Until the time had passed,
And now today, I see my list
Of never-ending tasks.

Why so, I ask myself, did I
Put off that task at hand?
For yesterday has added to
My ever-growing plans,

Of things I say I will attend,
Accomplish or provide;
Seems every day I put if off -
It multiplies in size.

A simple job if given
My devotion for a time;
Would surely have resolved itself
And eased my worried mind.

However, due to circumstance,
As always is the case;
I had no time to spend that day …
I had no time to waste.

For yesterday, I worked on
All the tasks I had delayed,
From days before when I would say
I have no time today.

You see, tomorrow’s easier
To say that I will vow,
To catch up on the overload,
And yet - I wonder how?

‘Tis easier to play the part
Of victim in this case,
And be the martyr ever-more
I have no time to waste.

Re:
LittleBrownDog's Avatar Oooh, no - don't talk to me about tax. It's my very worst-favourite chore. Hope the Great Dane is plying you with lots of sustenance to keep you going.

Re:
KittyB's Avatar What's a housecoat? I think this query belongs in the pants/vest section on the Private forum!

Re:
Pondside's Avatar What's a housecoat????? Cultural confusion strikes again! It's the fuzzy or velvety or terry cloth garmetn that you wear over your nightie when you're mooching around the computer in the morning, or watching TV in the evening.

Re:
Kat's Avatar Sparkling kitchens make me cranky. I'd much rather smell the wet dog fur as Celeste lounges right in the middle of the floor, have dirty dishes in the sink, and burnt toast crumbs on the counter.

(But I got my taxes done early and already got my miniscule refund!)

Re:
Camilla's Avatar My friend who has cottage usually leaves it to last minute, then wonders where all receipts are, then rushes round like deranged woman.

Pondside's Avatar Well, that's me - a deranged woman.
Thanks for that poem, Blossom - too, too true!
