Cowart's Common Room
Thanks to All...

Heartfelt thanks to you all for caring so much.

Yes, there are days when it is harder to be bright. I think that I have been busy planning our trip to Melbourne without letting the real reason for going in. But we shall go and get it done, and then have an enjoyable time touring which no doubt I shall witter about on my blog upon returning. We have an apt. with the specialist in Auckland the week following our return to discuss the result - on May 23rd.

The thing I keep telling myself (as some of you mentioned) - there is no guarantees in life..... Just two days ago when we got back from Queenstown there was a heavy rain warning issued and it soon was bucketing down. I watched the stream coming up at the rate of knots and decided to move the cows to the higher paddocks around midday. No problems there, but having moved them I was walking back to the house through the fields when thunder boomed overhead and lightening was soon fizzing everywhere. Briefly I considered the chance of being struck and couldn't remember whether you are supposed to go under the trees or stay in the open. I vaguely recalled something about lying prone (which made sense) but the muddy ground wasn't all that apppealing so I just went home.

Later on the TV news reported on the death of both horse and rider struck by lightening near Dargaville - a mere 40 mins from here. The same torrential rain caused a river to suddenly rise and swept away a party of 9 - 8 teens and their teacher - at the Sir Edmund Hilary Outdoor Centre in the Central Plateau (near Taupo) and today we learnt that of the 9 six have perished including the teacher.

Here one moment and gone the next. You just have to enjoy being here, don't you?

Love to you all,
Sam xxxx

Milla's Avatar hell, nobody said it was going to be easy Sam. Keep on keeping on, that's all we can do, love to the pair of you, and keep clear of lightning.

I love your blog, such gorgeous photos you include. I'm new here so just learning about everyone and reading my way through so many good blogs.

I agree with what you say here, about making the most of life, and each day. None of us know. I grew up being taught to have grace, or gratitude about life. But I lost that caught up in power mad 90's and rat race. Always thinking there would time enough for doing things, later on, once I got wherev er it was I thought I was going. (nowhere!) Then I got ill, and ended up with cancer. I stepped back and looked on at my life, and other people's too. It made me take the time to smell the roses, as they say. I never take anything for granted now. Life is wondrous isn't it?

Your spirit comes through loud and clear in your blog, it is wonderful.

wishing you well

Westerwitch's Avatar No we really don't know what is just around the corner.

Remember the life you are worrying about today is tomorrow's good old days - so let's enjoy the good old days right NOW . . .TODAY.

Sam you are going through a really difficult time - so glad that we can be here for you when you aren't feeling so great and very touched that you trust us enough to share those moments with you.

Love and Hugs

Withy Brook's Avatar Ditto to WW. For goodness sake don't go and stand uner a tree!!!. Lightening goes for the highest point around, so flat on the ground or in a ditch is absolutely it - or get home as quick as poss, praying! I was fishing once and stuff was coming down quite near. I put my rod down damn quick!!!

PS Forgot to say that should you want a few tips on eating well to beat cancer, I'm happy to send you some advice free of charge. I'm a Nutritionist and have studied cancer diets, and whether they work or not, for many years. Just send me a pm.

If you know anything about flower remedies for emotional stress I advise you to get your hands on some immediately. They can help you through grief, fear, fatigue etc etc. I am a practitioner of the Bach remedies but advise people to use local flower remedies where possible, you may have some in your own region. If not, try Star of Bethlehem, Olive, & Mimulus.

Pondside's Avatar Too true - life happens and we are along for the ride. It sounds as though you are managing to keep your life as normal as possible during this stressful time, and when all the good reports are in and you are really back to normal you will be able to look back on these months and be proud of yourselves.
